I'm getting a Galaxy Note and was wondering what apps to install to boost performace. I've done a bit of research and come up with following

Superuser
Adfree
Set CPU
Titanium Backup Pro
Wireless Tether
Juice Defender Ultimate

Are there any other apps for performace boosting I should look into or are there any better alternatives to the ones i've listed?

I've seen Rom Toolbox Pro which seems to do what a lot of the apps above do rolled into a single app.

I'll be rooting the phone when I get it. Any tips or advice I should be aware of? And when I root the phone will it cause any problems when ICS comes out like preventing me from updating?

How come these custom roms will make the device run better than androids/smasungs own official release?

Like some coder in a bedroom can get a rom running better than a team of paid programmers?

Which rom should I go for?

I rooted my Galaxy S2 and I cant install the latest Banking app from Barclays. Its detects that the phone is rooted and will not launch

Interesting. As i'm buying a Note to do banking and online betting while i'm on the move. Should I not root the phone then or just use another bank?

And can I still block ads without having to root my phone? Main thing is I don't want to see adds when browsing as for apps i'll just buy the paid version.

If you root the phone, you'll get superuser with it and either setcpu will be included or there'll be no need for it.

Are they hacked/warez versions of the apps or something and how come you automaticly get these apps when you root?

For Adfree, I'd leave it if I were you. On android, some really awesome apps are available for free, this is thanks to the ads. If you don't like the adds, pay for the app.

I do intend to pay for my software. I want to blobk ads when browsing the web.
