Fresh install of Windows 10 on dad's new computer. Never used windows 10 anymore.

I don't come home often, and he's not a computer wizz, so would need little maintenance.

Which free antivirus would you recommend? I have always used AVG free but wondering if there are better alternatives (with the annoying popups that come with it).

windows defender + (un)common sense. adblockpro to strip crap from websites. gmail to strip virus+phishing from email. chrome to block known infected websites.

As has been mentioned Windows 10 comes with AV built in so I don't see the need to purchase a separate package.

For someone reasonably capable the built in protection is generally sufficient but a more advanced suite including things like additional browser protection can be a good idea for someone inexperienced.

Have to agree with this - on windows 7, defender wasn't sufficient for my kids (and even AVG didn't prevent everything), since switching to the full eset internet security package though have had no issues.
