what apps for OS X ?

ok,
So now Im in possession of MBP.
Can you please recommend me some good and possibly free apps for watching movies(avi,mkv etc)
a file manager maybe ?
apart from lightroom and aperture are there any good PP apps ?

and how do i make a partition on hdd ?
I just dont like to have system on same drive as downloads etc.

and all advice welcome!

The Mac App Store has plenty of games too, but like most things, the quality ones aren't free.

MPlayerX is free via the App Store and is a reasonable media player, personally I prefer it to VLC.

Plex is a media centre application along the same lines as XBMC. It's gives a nice interface for viewing and managing media files. I would note though there is a major release just coming out at the moment hence I would let it settle a bit before trying it out.

had a go on Plex but it froze each time I wanted to quit it...

If you tried the version that was released last night then it doesn't freeze when you try and exit, it just takes a very long time to do so.

Not something that was present in the previous release so I suspect it's a bug to be squashed ...
