What are Intel Xeon CPU?

I keep seeing Intel Xeon cpu but the speeds not all that good as max speed ive seen on ocuk is a 3.33ghz but the cpu it self is £1368.50p and chepest is £817.01p. There Not in stock but does say pre order. Not ordering one just wondering why there so much compared to sandy and Ivy and what there for as there not in any gaming machines ive seen.

I might be wrong here, but I think they're for servers/workstations.

They're intended for use in servers.

Yeh, that. They're also very high grade chips normally I believe so overclock faster, plus the ones that OCUK stock work in the SR2 motherboard, which takes two CPUs.
