What are IPOD Classic's like ?

I really like my touch, although the novelty is slowly starting to wear off :( but hopefully iphone 2.0 update will renew the interest :) It has really good sound quality, I find the 'Rock' EQ to be the best as you get a much richer sound than the normal one. Although i still need to invest in some better headphones. :p

The only thing I really really dislike about all of the current gen ipods (including the touch) is the stupid shiny back, it just scratches and looks a right mess after a while of it being in your pocket :( Im tempted to paint the back of mine :p

I was tempted to get a classic for a while for the storage space, but with my bad eyes I wont really be able to enjoy watching tv series or movies on it because the screen is way too small. Ipod Touch is fantastic for images and movies :)

Hope you enjoy whichever one you have chosen. :)

What you need is get is something like the imat for it like this one for the iphone i got. Adds no bulk, but adds grip and protects it from scratches.

I keep my nano in a wool sock and it's not produced one scratch yet...

Ahhh! I really wish people would stop calling it the iTouch! It's the iPod Touch. You don't say iClassic or iNano. Where has this stupidness come from?!

I had an 80Gb iPod for a while before selling it, build quality was good, it felt very solid and the large amount of storage is great of you want your entire music library on the go (unless of course it exceeds 80Gb).

The colour screen wasn't the best, visibiliy during bright daylight was a problem as were blacks looking decidedly greyish, but this could probably be attributed to it being one of the earlier models.

I sold it for a 16Gb touch as I wanted the larger screen and touchscreen functionality. The downgrade in storage capacity wasn't really an issue for me as I tend to only take my top rated songs with me anyway, which at the moment doesn't even fill up my 8Gb iPhone.

As far as iTunes goes, I've never had an issue with it except for installing newer versions (as it would mess with the music library). Other than that I find it responsive, with plenty of features and easy to sync with iPod/iPhone devices.

One thing with the classic is that i can change tracks, volume without getting it out of my pocket. Can't do that with the itouch (unless you jailbreak and install an app but that means leaving the screen on...). I can do it with the iphone but only if i use the supplied headphones.

if you doubletap the home button it brings up a nice shortcut menu that you could learn without too much trouble.

everybody knows what you mean when you say itouch.

exactly - hardly much of a problem!

I have to say I love my ipod (80gb 5th gen, had a 40gb 3rd gen, 60gb photo and now this) AND itunes.

itunes is pretty well the first thing I install when I do a fresh install, I find it perfectly straightforward to work with, fast, manages my podcasts really well and all the rest of it.

Can't see what the fuss is about tbh but then its horses for courses, I've been using itunes probably 5 years now :)

Well, my order seems to be stuck in the warehouse queue so it looks like I won't get my new toy for tomorrow :(

Lets hope for friday then, I am quite excitted about it for some reason :/

Do you own a touch as well Raymond? if so which one do you use the most and why? I own a 80gb classic and am quite happy with it. I would love to get hold of a touch though, but i cant really justify having one :D

I have all 3 :p

I use the touch to watch videos mostly. I have in fact put the classic back in the box, and only take it with me on long trips.

grrr i really want one! i guess the 8 gig version is worth having if pottering around town and such. booo! heh.

Also what is the wifi like to work with on them?

the iphone is where its at tbh.. the only major failing in the first gen for me is the headset socket, my cheapo ebay adapter gave up the other day and its just hassle I don't need.

Wifi are great with them, but i do find that the touch receives the signal better than the iphone by just a little bit.

Well - I got my IPOD Classic.

So far I am liking it a lot, 80GB of space - and I have filled about maybe 15 GB so far :p still more stuff to put on though.

Overall quality feels extremely nice, solid build quality. Screen is sxtremely readable, with all the text and graphics bright and crisp.

All the charging is done via a USB port, and it charges pretty quickly (a few hours or so, I didn't exactly take much notice honestly).

How difficult importing music is really depends on how used to Itunes you are... for me I never used it before so took a few moments, but once I did everything is extremely intuitive.

Overall volume is pretty loud too, even on some of the more quiet recordings, and the more "heavy metal" tracks sound loud, crisp and clear. I am using the headphones I received with it for the moment - and they sound pretty good; albeit a little strange to wear at first.

Overall though I am very happy with the product :)

there's a reason ipods are so popular :)

I was a little nervous honestly, because my friend basically told me they are "a fashion accessory, and other players are far better for cheaper" :/

He owns a zen, but with all the support creative give their customers, I decided I didn't want to overwhelm myself with their excellent service... :p
