Okay so right now I have one Ethernet coming into my room directly from the house router which is downstairs. In my room I have various wireless devices but the signal up here is pretty weak. That Ethernet was plugged into my Xbox but that's been sold now cause I have the X1 on pre-order and game more on my PC.

So since it's free I was thinking of having some sort of AP in my room so then all my devices will have full wireless signal and also preferably in 5.0ghz. I would like to create a new wireless network and not just extend the house one. Would this be possible or are there better possibilities? What sort of equipment do I need? I would like to keep the price under £100.

I was looking at this, since it can do what I want and also other things if I chose to, any recommendation or better equipment?

Or maybe this is better? It's also £25 cheaper than the Asus thing.

In your situation I'd get hold of a wireless router and configure it as an access point. This will give you some additional wired ports to use as well as wireless.

If you want your own separate wireless network then just set your own SSID and encryption keys, and choose a wireless channel that doesn't clash.

It'll depend on how fast the wireless needs to be, but if you just need to cover a single room you wouldn't need anything too exotic. The Eco series Asus routers would be fine if you can live without 5GHz. If you have an old wireless router kicking around there's a fair chance you could use it.
