Currently on an i7 2600k at 4.4ghz on an Asus PZ77-V LX mobo with 8GB ram.

I was going to do a complete upgrade and get a new mobo, skylake 6700k, and possibly a 970 or an R9 390 and 16GB Ram.

All other components are already spoken for (decent LCD, Corsair AX860i PSU Fractal XL case)

Now I'm thinking perhaps just keep my i7 2600k as it is, (perhaps overclock it a little more) and getting a 980ti, since i'll be saving on a new mobo and CPU. Then get 16gb ram... To bring my computer more upto date.

I really only game 1900x1200 for a few hrs max a week,

The rest of the time, I'm just surfing the web on forums.. So I'm most definitely not what you call a hardcore gamer... but i absolutely can't stand it when i get frame drops. So if I'm going to buy a game i want it running to its max potential..

So what's better a 970 and a 6700k with DDR4, or sticking with what i've got an a better GPU.

Opinions please.

Stick with what you got and get a powerful gpu and also an SSD if you havn't already got one.

We disscused this in a diffrent post a few days ago when some says the 980ti is overkill for 1080p and some saying that games like the Witcher you get 60FPS with a 980ti.

what he says
2600k is still plenty

I agree doesnt matter whether 980ti is overkill or not fact is once you have one your machine will be fast at that res then if you ever want a bigger monitor res wise you already have the gpu power for it.

OK, one little caveat in all of this.. I was going to give my 9yr old my old mobo & cpu and 9450GPU and 8GB DDR3, and build him up a computer with it.. Again, SSD, extra HD, PSU, LCD, case already accounted for....

So now I'm going to need to get something that'll go nicely with the 8GB DDR3 and 9450, that i'll be whipping out of my machine. Has to be ATX.. ATM he's only playing Minecraft and Roboblox, but that'll probably change once he has a little more oomph at his disposal.

But bottom line is he's not an hardware whore like his old man ! and a little stutter here and there, isn't going to dick him off !

What's a good reasonable mobo / CPU combo, that'll work well with 8GB of DDR3 and a 9450 ?
