had a problem for nearly 2 years with my 2 5870 vapor x's in crossfire where they wouldn't operate at standard OC settings and i've never bothered about it, I've always just set them down to reference levels and got on with it, these past couple of days i decided to get to the bottom of it. I disabled ULPS and ran furmark... seemed ok.. little bit of flickering but nothing major. tried BC2 online, lots of crashes. turned off crossfire, same effect, then i switched the HDMI into my other card and low and behold runs solid, no flickering in furmark at stock levels or anything... enabled crossfire with my second card as my primary... crashed within 20 seconds of furmark.

now the question is as i have deemed the first card faulty after 23 months of owning it what are my options, i see sapphire offer a 2 year warranty would OCUK honor this as i bought the cards from them? and as the 5870 is no longer being made what would happen to it? its the revision 1 with black PCB that would allow voltage tweaking and i want to keep that as an option and keep crossfire.

anyone able to shine some light on sapphires procedures with a phased out card?

Cheers

yup.... i know its stupidic but i just downclocked them and got on with it, i actually forgot about it for a while as i'd set a profile for the clocks to go to the downclocked ones on startup but right now, its been acting weirder and i just want it fixed or something. i know i'm an idiot and.... yeah lol

Under the warranty you have 1 month to return it to the OCUK, OCUK are only liable for the first 30 days after this you have to send it to the manufacturer.
I would assume if you have not broken any seals i.e. removing any coolers etc. from the card and have not over clocked it and damaged it this way (suggest restoring all levels to default )you should be fine . As the card is now end of life they may offer you a replacement or a voucher off another purchase but be quick you only have a month left.
You need to visit their website and raise a RMA and quick I know this from working at 2 very well-known resellers (****** and *No competitor mentions please*) time is of the essence
In fairness to OCUK they will only tell u the same don’t blame them for you ignoring the problem

Good luck

i dont plan on blaming OCUK, they have been great so far, i raised a support with sapphire this morning for this issue, no seals are broken and nothing has been removed or OC'd, the only reason i even relooked into the problem is i just started a new job and the guy i work beside is a gaming nut just like me and we got a conversation going on this, just set my working card to 900core and 1300mem and solid as a rock, before in CF it was instant crash, curse my laziness! has anyone ever heard of manufacturers actually fixing an EOL card? would much prefer to keep my CF config if at all possible, if they send me out an equivalent then i suppose i can sell the working one and buy another of the same card for CF.

Cheers for the help guys

OcUK are liable for the full warranty length and they won't ignore you.

I have removed a cooler on a card and sent back to OcUK a few days ago and RmA went through.

thats all i need to know mate, will phone them in the morning and see what they say. cheers

phoned OCUK this morning, the second i mentioned the card crashing at stock clocks it was an instant RMA number sent to me, they said they will just send it back to sapphire anyways so will keep you posted, anyone know the turnaround for sapphire?
