Hi,

Got a quick question on my internet. I'm currently building a small one bedroom garden flat on my property. It's about 30m away from the main house and behind a row of hedges. Needless to say, the wifi doesn't reach that far. Or it does at times, but it's very hit and miss. The idea is to rent this out in time. I'm just not sure what I'm going to do with getting Internet into this place.

It does sit on the same electrical grid as the main house and in theory I could use a power line adapter, but I want it to be as self contained as possible. I don't need a tenant banging on my door at 3am asking me to restart the router.

As the place is just outside town and sorta in the country, I'm limited to ADSL only.

Any pointers?

Can't you just bury a Cat5 cable under the ground between the two buildings?

If I was doing it, I'd have them on separate networks as well, so phone line comes into the modem, then the modem goes into two separate routers. One provides the network for you, with wifi/cabling for the house, and the other sends a cable out to the flat.

I would create a separate network just for the flat. Then roll it into the monthly bills.

That or just get a new line for the flat fitted.
