I am on Pipex (or did til 10 mins ago), and just upgraded to the 8mb service for just £1.50 more. I know its up to 8mb and not fully expected to get that speed, even 4mb is fine by me and from the test the line should do 4.5mb. I was told to expect some unstablity in the next 10 days, I am just wondering how bad is it going to be so i am not going to get freaked out by all the sudden drop outs.

I wuld hope you won't get sudden drop outs, but you will get uneven speeds starting fairly low until it gets an idea of the capabilities of the line. Hopefully you should resync to a good speed fairly quickly so you shouldn't notice any problems.

I didnt get any drop outs but over the full ten days I got some pretty crappy speeds. I now get around 2 or 3mb during the evening peaktimes and anything up to 5 or 6 during quiter times. Ive seen my downloads hit 700k later on at night. Overall ive been pretty happy, and was releived after hearing some horror storeis....

I did my regrade to "Upto 8Mb" last March - put in for it the day it went live and it was actually done about a week later.

My regrade went extremely well and I just couldn't understand the problems people were having.
Basically one evening there was a 5 second glitch and my sync speed changed from the old 2mb to 8mb.
Over the next couple of days although I was sync at 8mb I remained on a 2mb connection, nothing felt any quicker.
Then my speeds started to kick in and I haven't looked back.

Now I am only about 500m away from my exchange so I get to sync at 8MB and I've seen downloads from the major sites at over 800kbps after 10:00pm when the exchange is on light loads.
However even at peak times I get good solid and most importantly fast downloads.
There have been some horror stories - mine went extremely smoothly.

I went onto UKFSN's MAX on Friday, straight onto 6mb, no drop outs whatsoever, had an IP profile of 6000, aint had any crappy speeds at all here, started at being able to download at about 702k, but now 5x days on my profile has dropped to 5500, and i can download at about 650k, so all ive dropped is about 50k which is nothing, thats in peak hrs to, off peak it drops as Enta throttle the pipes down a bit to help with latency, and cut out packet loss when everyone jumps on to download, but my speeds have been brilliant all the time so far, i may not have gone onto the 10 days training again though, as i was already put on MAX with AOL for the free upgrade to 4mb seen as theres no Gold anymore, and my profile on there was the 6000, but i dunno some ppl say you do go through the 10 days again, others say you don't if the MAX services are the same (i.e same sorta packages), and i always sync at between 7100-7650. :)

I've chosen to upgrade my nildram service from their 2mb offering to the 8mb package. Yesterday I was given an estimated installation date of the 11th, Sunday, is it likely to happen before hand? Do I need to periodically reconnect to see if the upgrade has happened?

What is it that actually needs to be done to move me from the 2mb to the 8mb service?
