Hi

I was wondering what your thoughts are on who are currently the best manufacturers for building a computer.

just asking for your personal opinions, not asking for an arguement.

ie:

Best graphics card make: BFG
Hard drive: Western digital

that is just an example.

So who are the current leaders in their fields for the different components for a computer?

thanks

Motherboard : Asus
CPU : Intel (And always will be)
GPU : BFG
RAM : Corsair (Although some other's are making a name for them selves now)

All other components, such as optical are generally equal and comes down to build quality in my opinion.

This is just a recipe for arguments really, one reply and I disagree on two counts - I'd never touch samsung over western digital (or even seagate) and I'd always go for plextor optical drives...

Have to agree. Plextor are amazing drives and you cant say Intel will always have the best CPU's

Thats why I asked for personal opinions and stated that I didnt want arguements. No one can argue with someones personal opinion, unless they are just trolling.

At the moment my personal feelings are:

CPU: AMD
Motherboard: ASUS
GPU : BFG
RAM: Corsair or G.Skill
Case: Lian Li
PSU: Corsair
HDD: Western Digital or Samsung

I actually don't own a few of the makes I've listed, but they've been the best in my experience. This could change as I'm hoping to do a new build later in the year.

why bfg? ive found they are all much of a muchness when it comes to gcards.
BFG have an oc warranty i think, which would make them desirable....

Ive had problematic ASUS boards (bad circuits), but also good ones.
however i have stuck with ASUS mobo's cos it's the devil i know.

Samsung seem to be cheap drives, but their new spinpoints seem to rate highly; i have the new WD 640GB drive and i find it fast and quiet. i also hear good things re Hitachi drives although ive never had one. ive got seagates and ibm deskstar drives; all no probs.

corsair 620hx is solid and quiet and good power/ quality for the price.

G.Skill Ram i have, no probs. Ive had probs with corsair sticks (ddr1) which were not "matched" at all.
I run A-DATA now and they are cheap and ive had no probs with them. there is good ram across most brands if you know what to look for(which i dont really:))

ive had probs with sony optical drives(&ASUS actually; the 'blt' model would not write to RW DVD for some reason so i dumped it), but good experience with Pioneer; ive also heard good things re LITEON drives.

i have a Noctua fan and it is absolutely the quietest fan bar none that i have owned anyway (P12 i think)...Scythe S-Flex are supposed to be good aswell; always look for low dB and high CFM obviously, but it's a balance btwn noise and airflow.

er um sry, just my limited experience with some hware.

intel chippies are ahead of AMD i suppose.

There long warranty and great RMA returns service is what I like. I actually don't own a BFG card anymore due to an upgrade but I may well in the future when I upgrade again.

agreed

CPU: Intel
Motherboard ASUS
GPU: BFG/Powercolor
RAM: GeIL
Case: Coolermaster
PSU: Antec
HDD Samsung

I have always used the above and found them to be very reliable. I had an Antec go on me for the first time in 10 years and they were very helpful in arranging replacement. Warranty is an important factor I think when you are looking to purchase hardware. It shows how confident the brand is in their own components.

It varies according to exactly what I'm buying but in general it is quite difficult to buy a poor component now provided you don't skimp stupidly e.g. if most PSUs of that wattage are coming in at ~£60 then buying one for £20 is probably not the best idea.

Asus motherboards are about the only product that I'd choose by default unless the other option was clearly better, if there isn't much in it then Asus gets the nod, purely because every Asus motherboard I've ever used has been very stable. Other than that I don't really have any particular brand loyalties, I'd just go with the best product in the category at the time or perhaps one that I felt like trying out.

Motherboards always had asus, never let me down yet.

GPU,BFG mainly for their good warranty and UK RMA.

Always used corsair memory, although this build i used GEIL and have been very happy with this brand.

Always used to go with AMD,but i am now on INTEL with a quad core.

Samsung Hardrives, but have used western digital and have still got the drive six years later.

Tagan and corsair PSU,s for me.

Plextor opiticals.

Yate Loon,Silenx,Noctua..cooling.

Zalman CNPS9700-NT for my heatsink,or the Thermalright Ultra..

Personally I've always done Intel CPUs on Intel Motherboards, sure it doesnt overclock well but I've always found it very quick at stock speeds and really reliable.

Crucial memory usually.

WD or Seagate for hard drives (I know they have decent enterprise pedigree so they should be reliable)

Plextor when I can afford it for optical drives

That aside, whatever looks good and is reasonably priced. I try to buy graphics cards based on the reference designs when I can, I have no interest in overclocking anymore and the ref design boards are pretty much guaranteed to be good...

IMO you shouldn't really have brand loyalty with PC components, just go for the current recommended at the time of build.

So my current choices:

CPU: Intel (Core2's are the dog's dangles:p)
Motherboard ASUS/Gigabyte
GPU: BFG/Sapphire
RAM: Corsair/OCZ
Case: Lian-Li
PSU: Corsair
HDD Samsung/WD
