I know macs are supposed to be good, i know the basic spec, Core2Duo etc and GT200, but what soundcards, motherboard and RAM do they use, what PSU?

Besides the design, are apple cutting corners internally?

Who cares? I thought you bought your iMac a few days ago?! It's a bit late to ask this question isn't it? :p

I don't remember how close the 20 resembles the 24inch, but iFixit have a good teardown of the iMac

Now clicky here.

Due to it being mostly custom stuff you can't really compare beyond doing benchmark tests on your system and compare it to comparable systems out on the web. Not great but will give you an idea of how it works (via bootcamp obviously).

I would not expect it to be bleeding edge quality components, but not dell budget either.

How would you define cutting corners?

Just 'cause the bits don't have ViperX Reaper Gold Series stickers on them, it doesn't mean they're duff.

I am not suggesting they use duff parts.

By cutting corners, like intergrated audio? slow timing RAM, PSU with low rails, things like that.

It's using a notebook chipset. That's to be expected.

Have a look inside, there's barely enough room for the current components. Also, you can always add external audio processing.

Why does it matter what PSU the things use? It's specced to be enough to run the components inside the box and it's not like you can add any. It's probably some Delta model or something, they seem a firm OEM favourite.
