Just gone past these cameras this evening, I don't normally travel on this route and I couldn't take any pics as I was the only one driving. The cameras look like cctv cameras and they are mounted on yellow poles. They are between obvious yellow traffic cameras as well, but the ones im on about are distinct, with the cctv at the top. Read a few sites, but it remains mixed as to what they are.
What are the new yellow poles with cctv, on a1m around the Appletree services, Wyboston /biggleswade?

Sounds like theyre going to be average speed cameras. Theyre popping up all over surrey. Sometimes yellow pole with 2 cctv looking cameras. Also seen dark pole with yellow cams.

I think they’re average speed cameras for the Black Cat roundabout roadworks, and possibly a few general traffic monitoring ones in the approach to the speed reduction area (particularly going northbound).

These things are everywhere now, though I'm told they don't always operate/work. Too expensive to license the software etc to run them for broke councils.

Average speed cameras normally around roadworks to make sure people sticking to the limit.
Many thanks for the replies. Have seen a lot of different, but my word, these are super different, especially with the round cctv at the top. I'll try and check my Dashcam for a pic. Some websites are suggesting they could be AI cameras that detect seat belt and mobile phone use detection, so not sure .
hmm that does sound possible, would be good if you could get a picture somehow (though don't take a picture while driving

Yep, Average Speed Cameras and potholes are the two most effective speeding deterrents in SCC's arsenal.
