I like RTS games and turn based strategies games, some of the titles I have enjoyed over the past few years include, Civ3/4/5 (not so keen on 5 though tbh), c&c series, Total war series (rome, shogun etc), Star Wars one where you have space and planet battles (can't remember the name though)

So I was in my local computer shop this weekend and saw they were selling some game called settlers for next to nothing, having never played or seenthis before I was wondering if it is a decent game or if I should just not waste the money even though it was only a few quid.

Which one in particular? The older ones were great games, with a serious nostalgia value for me. Can't say I've played the more recent ones.

EDIT: I bet you can find some demos if you Google around.

Its like theme park.

You make a village and try to keep the villagers happy.

Similar to Tropico/Anno series if youve played them.

The game I would reccomend out of this genre for you is Tropico 3, its a very easy introduction to city building and the level of complexity is not high.

haven't tried the settlers series myself.
but i did play anno 1404
that game gave me RSI :p
it was really good at the beginning but quickly becomes very repetetive and tedious, having to keep all your citizens happy.

I have only played Settlers 6, i enjoy it. I am not too sure what the earlier series are like, i have not played them.

However, after reasonably bad reviews of Settlers 7 and having to be online constantly i have not been at all bothered to purchase.

Settlers 1 and 2 were very good, plus the Settlers 2 remake.

These were worthwhile because you could influence the economic cycle by plotting the roads that wares were transported on, giving you a great amount of control.

Settlers 3 and 4 did away with this, roads and paths were trampled through use determined by the AI. Still a lot of fun, but couldn't compare with 1 and 2.

From 5 onwards they weren't really worth playing any more, because BlueByte tried to jump on the RTS bandwagon and fell off. Many far superior RTSs around and the building functions just seemed to be tacked on to hold on to any past Settlers enthusiasts.

Personally, I'd go for Settlers 2 or the remake of that. Although I wouldn't really, I'd go for Anno 1404 or Tropico 3.

1 2 and 3 very good classics. Get the 2 remake. Its quite a slow game and don't count on huge armys. Just few soliders.

The rest is also ok. Buy em if your bored. Or get the demos
