what are the symtems of a fried cpu ?

on new buildthis new mobo is resetting every couple of seconds there are no beeeps or bios screen. Memory and gpu tested on another machine and are ok. any ideas?

Going by the highly detailed spec it's not a compatibility issue, as you said, you've built the same before.

Although, you didn't mention the PSU specs?

4 Pin 12v ATX Connector is in?
Have you overclocked at all?
Reset the CMOS memory?

A failed CPU will usually produce an error beep sequence. Provided you have a mini speaker attached to the mainboard header or the board has an onboard piezo sounder.

Near instant shut off is not usually the CPU.

Make sure the board is installed correctly. If a standoff is in the wrong place it will short and the PSU will shut down after a second or so.

Make sure you have the correct 4pin ATX connector and didn't confuse it with any other.

Make sure you have a fan with a pulse wire plugged into the CPU Fan header

Make sure the graphics card is seated. Only the very top edge of the gold finger connecter should be visible (if at all) and is should be even all the way along the slot. Some cheap cases tend to lift the back edge of the card. This shouldn't cause a non boot.

Try the basics. One stick Ram, GPU, CPU (with HSF) and nothing else! No other cables for HDD, FDD, etc etc.

Make sure the motherboard header connections are correctly connected.

I accidentally connected an IDE HDD with an FDD cable... That wouldn't switch on so check everything, then check again.

the psu is an corsair 550 watt

Whats a standoff?

oh dear...

standoffs are either plastic, or more commonly, brass posts that screw into the case - the motherboard then screws onto these posts.

the posts raise the motherboard slightly so the solder on the underside doesnt connect with the metal case, and of course they also hold it securely in place so it doesnt slip around when / if you were to move the case around.

The case usually has some fitted by default.

These may need to be removed and or additional ones fitted so that they only line up with the screw holes in your board.

Otherwise you have a nice brass connected from the case to some part of you mainboard.

I had these symptons on a new build, resetting every couple of seconds, no beeeps or bios screen. Memory and graphic,s card ok, CPU was faulty.

Clear the CMOS.

Try with one stick of memory, then try with just the other.

The CPU is the least likely thing to be at fault (memory, then motherboard, then PSU, then CPU).

Have you cleared the CMOS?

If that doesn't work then you may start swapping the CPU's between the 2 machines.
