What are you saving up for?

Drone
Holiday x2 for next year (little legal work should pay for one)
.22 air rifle

Contemplating a 4k for new year but promised myself my current TV was a 2019 keeper. Usual other things like Xmas.

I know there are things I want in life like a house of my own (who doesn't?)

Me, never been bothered.

Not really saving for anything, maybe a quick trip over to Japan or somewhere at some point. Haven't been in a position to save money for a while anyway, though hopefully that's changing.

Im very lucky in that I have the house and car, although my wife and I saved hard for the house.

I suppose the thing I'm saving for now is simply a better life, a better quality of life and to sometimes enjoy the finer things.

Also saving for first house. Put my reservation fee down and it's due to be built in July next year. Just putting away money for furniture and bits now. Been quite lucky as the combination of help to buy plus moving away from the south and a promotion has allowed me to get to this point quite quickly. Makes a nice change from the rubbish time I had the year before.

Nothing really. :/

I'm lucky enough to have a fairly good salary, have ridiculously cheap rent and a cheap enough lifestyle. A vast proportion of my salary is saved each month, but still deciding what to do with it.

At first I thought I'd treat myself to porsche, but frankly I can't be arsed with reliability issues and the such. And my own more modestly powered car still can cause issues, so having a beast of a car is probably a poor idea.

Got a house for family so maybe myself at some point? (I like having the freedom to go elsewhere).

So yeah, for now save and try and have more of a life outside of work. :p

The future.

Actually, mostly just paying off mortgage because it is far higher interest than any safe investments at this time. I am close to maxing out my pension contribution as well though, so I have a large tax-free investment with mixed risk.

Will need to think sf soemthign else to do with my earnings once the Mortgage is paid off in the next months. Thinking of a ski chalet up in the mountains.

Saving like a maniac so my daughter can have a better life than I had. She's currently in line to inherit 2 houses and quite a bit of cash. Hopefully she doesn't decide to do me in to get hands on it quickly!!

Sadly my saving means I can't afford a new PC!!

It's amazing the different views people have on things like this.

Some live for today don't care about next generation as they had to do it all on their own.

Others will go without so that their offspring can inherit everything and their offspring who won't even remember their (your) name will have it all handed to them on a plate and live a cushy live thanks to the person who's name they don't even know who struggled their whole life.

if she's getting 2 houses why they need for "quite" a bit of cash on top too? Inheritance tax bill is gonna be sore on that I take it then?

Ok I posted on the last page saying that we weren't saving for anything in particular...

that's not entirely true. I have a 3 month old daughter so a lot of what we are saving and investing will be for her/any future child we may have. Most of the savings we have now plus whatever we save in the future will be a decent deposit on a second house.
