So it's almost 2026, a new year and new games. What are some of your predictions for the new year?

I'm going to say:
Metro 4, highly likely.
Left 4 Dead 3.
Source 2 ports of Half-Life 2, ep1, ep2, Portal, Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2, to be released on current and last gen console as well.
New Quake.
New Crysis will look nice.
2026 CoD will come out, be terrible, but noobs will still buy it.
Killing Floor 3 will start to redeem itself as will other long term semi-service games.
GTA VI won't be released on PC
Valve and Steam will continue to kill off the gaming industry, no one will care and everyone will applaud them for not being Epic, EA, Ubisoft or any other platform.

I hope you are correct about killing floor 3, i played for a few days and really dont know what to make of it but it was not special by any means.

Many more AAA disasters to laugh at.

Squadron 42 doesn't release.

Star Citizen doesn't release.

Half Life 3 is coming again.

Nothing of any lasting significance is released in the MMORPG genre.

2026's COD won't be a**e.

I feel i'm really going out on a limb on all these. I hope people aren't just going to go for the tap-ins.

:D

More crap aimed at a gaming audience that doesn’t exist that will result in more game devs having to change careers to ones that feature saying “Do you want fries with that?”.

I foresee my replaying a lot of old favourites again.

I predict I won't find anything new I really want to play.. or when / if I do play anything it will bore me stupid in 5 mins.. and i'll go back to something I do enjoy.. At this point I think it's just me.. and I just don't like gaming anymore.. ( I do still enjoy portal 2 on normal PC, and AMS2 and walkabout golf in VR.. but that's about it.. :( ... )

I predict that there will be plenty of decent games to play but by December people will still complain that there was nothing decent to play even though there was and it was actually down to them not wanting to try a different genre or because they were put off of trying really good games because of the graphics (like Abiotic Factor this year for example) or being willing to pay for the titles :)

I'll continue to play older versions of COD, get irritated by the aim assist players, continue to refuse to buy any new ones until I can filter mouse only, which will never happen. I'll try other shooters, but I'll again discover I don't have the time or energy to learn a new game, get more irritated than cod, so end up going back to older versions of COD.

Remain hopefull for HL3 and Portal 3

Play more single player games

Be disappointed at the price of the steam frame, buy a used quest 3 so I can play HL Alyx. Hope I find further use for it after that if so, seek out a used/refurbished steam frame.

Get annoyed at RAM prices, Storage prices, GPU prices etc.

AI will continue to ruin the world. And I'll continue to worry about my kids futures. (Not really gaming related but most significant)

Not a chance GTA releases this year.

More hardware misery, glad I’m locked in at the high end for now. Looks like its life may be extended. Not a chance developers push the envelope now.

Looking forward to:
High on life 2
007 First light
Forza Horizon 6
Gears
Tropico 7
Halo

Absolutely nothing good.
  • Any lessons learned from AAA companies that their best talent can leave and make something amazing like E33 won't sink in.
  • Same AAA slop will come out on schedule, it will be even sloppier with the use of AI almost exclusively made to cut corners and save cost rather than improve the game.
  • Hardware is going to be miserable, memory prices are going to push up the cost of everything. Less supply from Nvidia will drive up prices like mad.
  • Steam machine plans will flop it will be too expensive. I don't see any serious reasons to believe value have anything game related to release in 2026
  • The new generation of consoles will probably have to be delayed further.
  • The delays in GTA6 plus the studio cuts does not bode well
  • UE will continue to be a nightmare in almost all cases.
I think the industry now knows that there is promise in indie games and will try and re-adjust some resources towards them, many of the games are bad, but if the markets ability to predict sleeper hits gets better we may see a rise in small studios getting much needed injections of cash. Which hopefully solves their problem of discovery via marketing budgets.

I think this will be the year where we see drastic changes to woke rubbish in games. I hope to see more return of "man" and "woman" instead of "body type A" and "body type B", I think important characters in games will get touch ups to look attractive both in game and in marketing material. There will be more fantasy in our games and less focus on inclusion. Woke intrusion into games has generally been negatively received by the people who actually buy games (men). DEI hires at gaming studios I think will go down, we'll see less pushing of real world political and social narratives in games as fundamentally toxic to game reception and thus sales.

Given that I’ve just had a couple of big bills come in, I suspect that my 2026 PC gaming experience will be “whatever I fancy playing that runs decently at 1080p on my ancient PC”.

Same as the last 8 years then. Poop.

Titles I'm looking forward to :

Blight
Rooted
Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era
The Tomb Raider remake
Breathedge 2
Light No Fire
Clockwork Revolution
The Long Dark 2
Star Rupture
Hunger
Warhammer Dark Heresy
Atomic Heart 2
ILL
Mortal Shell 2
Menace
Dawn of War 4
Oxygen Not Included Away Team
The Secret of Weepstone
Resident Evil 9
The Expanse Osiris Reborn
The Lift
Transport Fever 3
Control 2
Solasta 2
Lords of the Fallen 2

Basically, looks like another corking year of gaming :)

I know this may seem far fetched but I am willing to risk predicting that Paradox will release at one, maybe even two, pieces of DLC for EUV during 2026.

Wolverine will not make 2026.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst will run like crap, have shader stutter, or both.
More AAA will fail to meet targets because people are fed up with unoptimised focus tested slop that they want £80 for.

Not sure about predictions but wishlist wise - new games focus on good optimisation at launch as fewer people can afford to upgrade.

Also Half-life 3 finally confirmed.. ?

The Blood of Dawnwalker will be contender for GOTY 2026
SQ42 will be delayed...again..
There will no TW3 "crossover" DLC
We'll see a stealth release of a highly anticipated title
GTA 6 delayed until 2027
