Hi guys,

I have two PC's

First one which i have had for nearly 4 years, see below:

Pentium 4 2.0 ghz
512MB RAM
100 GB Hard Drive
Windows XP Home Edition + Service Pack 2
ATI 256MB Radeon 9800XT
Dell 20 Inch 1600x1200 Monitor

still works to this day, over the years i have changed my graphics card once from a Nvidia which i can't remember which model to this 256MB 9800XT which i got about 2 years ago. I am still playing games on this machine

I can run Prey with everything on max, i am talking about 1600x1200 4x FSAA and 16XAF and i get decent frame rates. When i take off FSAA and AF it is so smooth like butter.

Now i just got a new PC, and spent £920 in total

Here are the specs: # Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor by ADVENT the model number is Advent T9107

2.8GHz Dual Core 800MHz FSB, 2 x 1MB Cache
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition + Service pack 2
1024MB DDR RAM
250GB Hard Disk Drive/ 2 Partitions
Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD RW Drive
512MB ATI X1300 Graphics Card with DVI/VGA/S-Video
6-in-1 Media Card Reader
4 USB 2.0 Connections
20.1" LG 203WT 1600x1050 Flat Panel Monitor

My old pc was just Serial ATA and PCI and AGP

This new PC is PCI Express and SATA

Now here is the problem, i have all the latest updates, software and drivers just like on my other PC, but this new system has the latest technology compared to my other 4 year old PC, but i find my 4 year old PC gives me far better frame rates in the Prey demo. Ghost recon advance war fighter demo is crap on this new PC.

How come this is happening? Do i need to really tweak this system?

Any help much appreciated

Many many thanks

It runs like that on most PCs it seems. It was horrible on my machine.

Anyway, as Yewen said, the X1300 is the reason why. Swap it out for a better graphics card (Radeon X1800XT is the best for the money at the moment) and you'll be flying.

Many thanks for all your replys

So the X1800XT is the best value for money at the moment.

I also have got a ATI Radeon X550 256MB, is the 550 more powerful than a 9800XT?

Is a X550 256MB more powerful than a X1300 512MB?

Is my system a powerful system?

should i get the X1900XT 512MB?

or the X1800XT 512MB?

are those the latest cards?

Can you give me a link on overclockers for each of those cards? the reason i ask is because i see so many versions of the same card on overclockers and i am so confused on which one is which.

Any help much appreciated

Many many thanks

The graphics card you have in your new machines sucks, that's the reason why.

If you have the cash, get a 1900XTX. Personally search around in the member's market and see if you can pick something up second hand.

Hi triggerthat

Can you tell me, this new PC i have is it really powerful specs wise minus the current graphics card?

and with a 1800XT or 1900XTX 512MB will it be incredibly powerful?

It make make a large difference yes.

If it was me, I'd flog everything you don't need on eBay and use it to buy a Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT for £150.

Is the X1800XT crossfire compatible?

Also to make sure i got this right crossfire is ATI's equivalent of Nvidia SLI for dual graphics cards on the motherboard via a master card, right?
