Goal To overclock to 3.8GHz (1600 FSB) with the best settings.

Note 1 This is my first overclock, but I have read up on many how to guides and tutorials. I would like if you pros’ could look over each setting and see if all is good to go.

Note 2Below are the first changes I have done from default, I ran Prime95 for 6 hours, no errors. So now I will be ‘fine tuning’, but I have a few questions.

Note 3 CPU idle temps are 26-29ºC --- load temps are 43-46ºC


Questions :
1. I set the Vcore to 1.30000 to start with and the NB voltage to 1.20 – I’m going to assume that my overall goal is to get the Vcore as low as I can stable, then bump it up 2 notches, then proceed to get the NB voltage to as close to 1.12 as possible ? -- I read a guide that said to put the NB voltage on 1.12 and not lowest since P5Q mobo’s have weird bug with being set on lowest setting , so always best to one above. (lowest is 1.10)

2. After I do get the Vcore and the NB voltage to the ‘perfect stable’ settings, do I want to [Enable] any of the features that are currently [Disabled] ?

Well after several days of trying different voltages to find my stable Vcore i finally got it ! WOOT

Bios Vcore set to 1.2500

CPUZ Reading
Idle - 1.2240
Load - 1.2000

The second i go below that mark i get errors in Prime95 testing after about 5-10 minutes.

I ran 1.2500 Vcore for about 6 hours and did full blend, passed with flying colors woot =)

Temperatures idle are 25-26ºC , load at 38-43º (mostly 41)

Now im just gunna bump it up 2 increments and then start to lower the NB Voltage and see how that handles

lol ya i guess it would be nice to push it further, but i'd like to stay at a 1:1 ratio with my memory

peace of mind = more sleep at night for me =)


EDIT : Hey Mattyy, do you have Load Line Calibration enabled or disabled ?

memory wont allow me to boot higher tha 4.2ghz :( damn pc2-6400

Its why i've never known why in spec me threads people recommend 800mhz RAM, get fastest speed possible, and at the moment OCUK have a 1066 set for like 40 odd quid?

Maybe because people are on a budget? At the time I couldnt afford the extra 40+ quid that it was last year to get faster ram.
Seeing as I got the 800mhz ram on offer it made sense at the time.

Its now actually cheaper for me to upgrade to faster ram than what it was to just by it back when I brought the system.

Nuff said.
 
Agreed, it's where your priorities are. I remember wanting faster ram (s939 days) and having to get a cheapo OEM case to free up the cash needed for the PC4000 i needed for a high clock.

You could always try slackening the timings on your ram to allow for an increased FSB - it's pretty much what faster (PC8000+) sticks do anyway.

I've ramping the voltage and slackening the timings from 5-5-5-18 to
7-7-7-12
But still nothing. Will give it another go at some point.
