What audio player?

At the moment I'm using Foobar as it's the only media player I've found that lists the library by folder structure. The only problem I have with it, is that I find it useless for making playlists.

On the other hand, I really like Winamps layout and playlist functions, but I don't like the fact that you can't list your music by folder structure.

So... is there an audio player in between?

Cheers

I haven't a clue if that works with winamp 5. but it looks like the sort of view you where after?

Thanks, I'll take a look and see if it works :)

Tried MediaMonkey? Its pretty damn amazing once you've got it setup right (i'd say its much easier to faff around with than foobar ever will be too :p)

I'll give it a try, I got fed up with trying to style foobar in the end.. :p

Why don't you use windows exploerer and just drag and drop?

This is a way around it, but It's not as fast as doing it through the media player to be honest :)

Yeah i've posted endlessly about MediaMonkey it generally falls on deaf ears though. I use foobar (stripped of everything) for launching audio files quickly straight from the explorer shell. But for actually playing queuing and manipulating music, there definitely isn't anything better around right now compared to MM. Songbird is giving it a good stab but its not there yet (its promising though and has potential). The "full" MM technically isn't free though, i can't remember what you miss out on with the free version either so i hope its nothing decent, i assume its just burning capabilities and a few other silly things (like winamp).

Surely it's faster being able to do it at all than not being able to do it??

Plus what's faster than drag and drop? You still have to find the thing in the tree either way.

Well in explorer, you're having to navigate through folders upon folders to find the album you want, whereas in foobar for example it's just a tree explorer and all you need to do is double click.

Just saying at the end of the day I'd rather navigate through my music with a media player that displays it all properly :)

Use the Tree in explorer and it's identical.... Anyway That's how it's meant to be done. It's not a 'workaround'

'displaying' it all properly would be thourhg the use of tags, which any decent media player handles since the dawn of time.

I quite like mediamonkey at the moment. Just reading up on skinning it and apparently it can use Winamp skins if they're from the correct version.

Just trying to slim it down a bit, I'd love it to be as simple as foobar but with it's decent playlist functionality :)

Nah it will NEVER be as "slim" or as "simple" as foobar though, thats not really their philosophy. It's there to do absolutely everything under the sun, and its playlist (especially autoplaylist functionality) are second to none. Its heavy on ram and cpu, but when you've got loads to spare it doesnt really matter. I use MM for playing lots of music at flat parties and general background music etc... And i don't care that it uses a fair amount of resources. But i do love how i never have to ever think about making a playlist ever again, with a few scripts everything is so amazingly clever and simple better than apples "genius" ever could be :)
