Hi all.

I have a laptop, Media pc and a PC i use for a file server, WHat i want to do is Backup my laptop/Media PC and the bootable drives on my file server to my 2tb RAID 3 Array which is also on the File server, Now i know that most backup programs with back these up but the main things i want in a software is..

1.Incremental scheduled backup of complete hdd's and of individual folders over my network.
2.Ease of recovery esspecially if a bootable hdd (which will be completely backed up) dies and i need to transfer the backup across the network to restore the computer/laptop (if this can be done).
3.I wil also require good compression of the backup files/hdd's.
4.Ability to backup folders to an FTP site.
5.General ease of use.

Can anyone recommend a good software for this?
Thanks

Most would recommend Acronis (I would tend to agree), but I would give Norton Ghost 14 a try.

It is probably the only good piece of software produced under the Norton name - it does what it says, very effectively. The interface is cleaner and more intuitive than Acronis, and it is far less buggy. It performs incremental backups by default, and also offers offsite backs via local network or FTP.

acronis true image live cd for the boot drive, and synctoy for your media

no point in comrpessing media, you'll only save about 1-5% space, and it'll take ages to do it

synctoy is excellent, it'll only copy new or updated files when you run it, plus it's free, deffo the right type of tool for the job, turn on ntfs compression on the array and it'll save a bit of space (especially for word files etc)

I've tried to use synctoy on a few machines and it always crashes before I see the interface.

The download page mentions that .Net Framework 2.0 is required but I thought that because I am running Vista (64) that I already had that.

Any ideas ?

another vote for Acronis, has worked well for me for system backups and restores

will have to check out these Synctoys and Allway Sync sound intresting

Had a few problems with Synctoy so I tried Allway and its great.

Is this any good?

I used SyncToy for about 6 months and then realised that it was leaving empty rogue folders on an external back up volume - which was totally undesired since I wanted it to mirror my internal storage drive.

So I've had to manually go in there and sort stuff out which isn't cool.
