Simple My pal as £190 for a NEW or from shop card but what the most power he can get for that amount at cash. He diont have a lot of cash and dose not upgrade very often so he want the most power he can have NOW and forget about future upgrade's

CPU 2500k
Mobo Z77a gd65
PSU Superflower 750
GFX 660(maybe a TI)

i said for the cash the most power would be crossfire 7950's

is there any better option.

Well, buying new, that budget will get a GTX 760 now. Or wait a month and get the GTX 960.

AMD wise you are in 280x territory which is roughly equivalent to the 760. Nether is a big enough upgrade from a 660 imho for that money. I would wait for the 960 or save up a bit more cash.

Alternatively he could get a more expensive card and then sell the game codes that come with it to bring the cost back down to his budget. I've never done that so I don't know how much of a hassle that would be.

The £150-£200 market has been more or less ignored for 2 years now but I expect plenty to happen soon for those buying at the mid-range.

If your friend cannot wait then the only choice is an R9 280X, it is better than a 760, and close to the now discontinued 770. It is however a big step down from a 290 which only costs slightly more, especially if a sale is on.

Really though I'd suggest waiting for a 960, at the very least it may prompt a clear out of 780s.

Second hand market: 290, 290x, 780, 780ti

Brand new: save up the extra £70 and get a GTX 970

Or wait for the GTX 960 to launch which is probably the card that will suit his criteria.

Orther option is a brand new 290. Slightly over £200 tho.

No, that would be a waste of time. If he is investing in a set of cards he won't have to upgrade for a while then 7850s aren't the way to go. I agree with the others and recommend a 290 if he can stretch a bit. Also means no issues with xfire, and he could add a second card later on.

A pair of 7950's would offer the most grunt for the money, but the older Tahiti cards are being rapidly made insignificant as far as any promising tech is concerned, afaik mantle is hit and miss and you flat out don't get the option for freesync or true audio.

Tell him to find another £10-20 and buy a single 290/290x from retail, he'll get free games that more then make up for having to spend that little extra.

he dont like to buy used, and TBF i have had 2 290 in the past month and none are 100%

Maybe thats because your cpu is a i5 4670? That will bottle neck your GPU right there you need ideally a i7 for dual GPU setups. Unless you have a very heavily overclocked i5 that might cope slightly but i doubt it cos it's not a k model by the look of it so its stock.

So it's not the 290's faults its your system that they are not 100%

So id recommend a 290 for your friend.

If it were me I'd wait for Nvidia to release their Geforce 960 as others have suggested. Should be out in another month or so and will fit comfortably in his budget.

Either that save up another £60 to buy a Geforce 970!
