finally got enough mates on htere to justify getting a headset
[dont see why they dont just come with one like my 360]

was going for the usb wired one but i would prefer bluetooth tbh

could the ps3 boys recommend what they have and the units strong/weak points for me to aid my decision

[any reasonable budget]

Havent bought one yet, but ive heard the Plantronics Voyager 510 is really good, about £30, i'll probably get it soon.

cool - will look into those two

@ FirebarUK - any noticable hiss on the mic for that one? a review i just pulled up slated it for not being too clear

my mate has tried a few for his ps3 and found certain ones have problems with giffrent games . I bought the one that comes packaged with warhawk and had no problems so hope that helps ,its a jabra bt 135:)

rjkoneill - I just found it does have a mute button by the way. No hissing for me, my friends say I'm very clear over the chat. This is backed up by how it sounds when testing it in the settings menu. I'd recommend it, nice a comfy too. I'm not too keen on ones which go into your ear personally.

Same as me, sadly I don't think it can be picked up on its own.

Am I right in thinking that any bluetooth headset will work? I have a Bluetrek for my mobile, will that do to start with? Just bought a PS3 so I haven't tried yet.

The BT135 CAN be bought individually actually. Though I wouldn't to be honest. It is OK, but the sound is a little too muffled for my liking.

just seen this on a competitor site on its own

I see. Depending on how much it is I would get it. Had no problems in games or in private chat with it. Although Inoshishi on the forums can never hear me in games, I am assuming it is not a headset fault.

Any will work (This is why I am surprised not many people use chat, nearly EVERYONE I know has a Bluetooth headset, either free with a phone or for handsfree while driving etc).

Is there no way to make it so you can use your headset for the gaming audio itself so i dont need to have it on mute or on my tv of anight?

All i can seem to do is 'talk in game' or hear others talking....cant i use them as actual wireless 'speakers' ?

thanks

That jus lets me hear in game voices not the actual 'gaming sounds' i currently play with everything coming from the TV then voice of people comin through headset...which is poop
