What brands of memory can you put in a Mac Mini?

The only ones I hear of people using is Kingston and Crucial - is there a reason for this? Do they just not work as well with cheaper ram, or is it literally a compatibility thing?

Is there anything cheaper I can get, or am I stuck with Crucial/Kingston stuff?

It used to be / may still be that they are very picky when it comes to RAM that has issues with it, you'll get kernel panics etc. Crucial stuff isn't exactly several times more expensive than cheaper brands, consider it an investment in stability.

Fair enough, I was assuming it'd be something along those lines, our tech where I used to work used Kingston in G4s because he said they were picky, I just wondered if the Intel ones were less so.

I bought 2Gb of generic stuff from a big high street retailer and my Mini has never skipped a beat.

Hmm... see that's what I'm after, I've got £70 of Supercheques, which are high street vouchers we get at work as an incentive - I can use them at the big group of electrical stores, and one of them sells memory...

They sell PNY, I wonder if that'd do it?

We stick Kingston in all our Macs, seems to be a bit cheaper than Crucial and the like but it guaranteed compatible. A lot of people use AData without a problem though, the CoreDuo MBPs had a few hissy fits with some brands of RAM but the MB and Mini are generally ok.
