What breed of idiot is this?

"I made a mistake and bought a shiny thing because shiny and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA it's not my fault WAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Get a life. Seriously.

Councillus Capitallus Dumbassus

A breed that believes in everything being affordable despite not being able to afford the item in the first place, buys it anyway on high interest loans paying 2-10x the original price

Yikes! thinks she means a shop like Bright House.

On one hand I have sympathy, these places can help people get on to their feet but at the same time she should have seen this coming a mile off.

This the Brighthouse breed of idiot. She means consoles. They accept anyone including unemployed people and rip them off.

The most annoying aspect is that it's scary to think how much taxpayers money that's paid out in benefits goes straight into the pockets of this Shylock company.

You don't help people get back on their feet by ripping them off for thousands of pounds.

Guess it really is 4k lol. Thats from Brighthouse by the way. Let the idiots idiot, pretty powerless to stop them unless you pay benefits in food and amenities vouchers which has been done to death.

To be honest, I think it's disgusting what these companies charge. They prey on the poorest people in society and those who don't understand money enough to know that £10/week for 3 years is £1560.

I think most of them do understand, they just don't care.

I have sympathy for people really, most people on these forums will be intelligent enough to understand how much these companies rip people off, but if you're desperate and not very clued up on how interest works or even just have poor maths skills then you're going to get ripped off. There's a reason Wonga came under some serious scrutiny, and look at how much banks got fined for selling payment protection insurance to people. The government needs to regulate companies like this.

Maybe I'm a bad person but I don't have a lot of sympathy for many of them - I have a bit of sympathy when they fall foul of it the first time but many of them repeatedly make the same mistake not learning from it and I don't have much tolerance for that :S

I almost fell for one of these companies years ago. I made a few stupid decisions in my early 20s which decimated my credit score, so I couldn't get car finance. Eventually a company called ACF calls up, say they can guarantee me a loan on a car and they've got cars in stock. Fair enough, go for a drive down, guy comes out and starts evaluating my Corsa for PX value and takes us inside. Stupidly he took my passport and driver's licence so the guys upstairs could start processing the finance application. He points us at a Daewoo something or other and a Clio 1.2, these are the two cars we can choose from. Both had keep-fit windows and not a single optional extra, I think the Daewoo only had power steering too. Really bottom of the barrel stuff. They wanted £12k for each of them and after crunching some numbers, they came out at £27k for the total price for the cars. We told them no, they got really pushy and tried to force us to buy something, still said no (staying polite) and eventually he said he'll go get my documents and we'll be on our way. A few minutes later the "manager" appears and starts making his push. Again I politely refuse which resulted in him simply pushing harder. Eventually I pushed him out the way, walked in to their office upstairs (which looked like it was set up in the few minutes prior to us getting there) much to his dismay, there were another two chaps sat upstairs, one with his feet on his desk and the other playing Minecraft who both looked as though I was a fraud inspector who just walked in. I grabbed my documents off the desk when one of them said "you can't just take those, they haven't been released yet". I told him to try and stop me and walked out. These guys were complete cowboys just looking to prey on those who are already in a difficult spot. How they get away with it is beyond me, I've never wanted to knock someone's lights out as much as I did then.

Sorry, I worded it wrong. I understand how companies like this seem helpful to people on low income (or those who like to live a champagne lifestyle on a cider budget) at a glance.

It's the "Oh wow, I can have it today" mentality. I'm not judging though. I have a credit card and make big purchases on it rather than save up but I pay it off.

I think most of them do understand, they just don't care.

I've known plenty of normal working seemingly sensible people who have no idea how anything involving money works in terms of tax/interest/etc. so there is going to be a fair proportion of people that these companies are just preying on knowing they don't have the faintest grasp of what it's actually going to cost them in the end.

It tells you when you make the purchase exactly how much you'll be paying back

In fact a quick look at their website, they even tell you before purchasing.

They probably don't care about the final amount as they MUST have a stupidly large in the TV lounge. Everyone knows a big TV makes life so much better, so stuff the cost.
