hi,

I have a set of Yamaha TSS-15 speakers -It has "Digital in" for both Optical and Coaxial.

I Want to connect the Yamaha amp to the Digital out on the soundcard. Only problem is... I don't know what cable I need to buy! It needs to go from the SPDIF coaxial port on the sound card to my "digital in" on my amp.

Is there a Photo of what one of these cables look like?

I have connected the following:

* Optical S/PDIF connector.
* All Digital cables from speakers.

I think this is why my rear speakers aren't working in games properly and the realtek control panel. DTS works in DVD movies since its using the optical
cable.

what cable goes from the circled ports?

Basically a bit of digital coax terminated to a Phono plug is what you want. Plenty of places sell them, a good quality 1M length would cost you about 40 quid or so.

sod off lol. any 75ohm cable will do. shouldnt cost you more than a tenner. hell, i use a regular rca cable for mine. makes no difference unless you are planning to run a length over 10m or so:)

what motherboard is it? if it doesnt have a ddlive/dts interactive spu (soundcard) onboard then thats why your rears arent working in games. its nothing to do with the cables - optical and co-ax both carry the same signals.

mobo is a gigabyte ds3p rev 3.3 - i have the optical cable plugged in, but wasn't sure if i needed another cable so my games work with rear speakers! I get no sound from the sound test in the realtek sound panel from rear or center speakers you see, just the front left and right...

right ive done a bit of digging and basically your onboard audio doesnt support DDLive or DTS interactive. that means it cant upmix multi channel audio and send it over spdif to your speakers. that why dvds work but games dont.

in a nut shell, you wont get round the problem unless you you buy a card that has DTS-i. or DDLive, or if you can connect your onboard audio to your amplifier using analogue connections:)

Bingo.

I had the same confusion for a long time.

There's a few cards sold here that will do what you need:

Asus Xonar
Auzentech X-Meridian
Auzentech X-Plosion
Auzentech X-Fi Prelude

I need one of these cards and after vacillating for ages I think I've settled on getting an X-Fi Prelude when it comes out but I'll wait for reviews first. You might prefer that card also as it will be the best of the bunch for games.

Alternatively to the cards above although not sold here are some Terratech cards which use the same technology but are not as expensive although the quality will not be as good.

Edit: With any one of these cards all you will need is the optical cable that you already have and will also be supplied with the card. It's the best connection option anyway.
