I have my PC upstairs, but our DG834GT is downstairs by the main phone line.

Connecting the DG834GT upstairs drops the sync speed by around 4mb which is too much of a drop. At the moment i'm using a long network cable across the hall, which of course is both impracticable and annoying because it doesnt quite reach where i want my PC in the corner of the room.

Looking around, i think i'm going to need 10m, but i'm not of what type of cable.
So far i've narrowed it down to Cat5 (patch + crossover) and Cat5e (patch + crossover)

Thanks.

Cat5e straight though.

No need for a crossover as you're connecting your machine to a switch, a crossover is only technically required when connecting switches to other switches or two devices e.g. two computers directly together.

Most modern equipment though automatically changes the correct pins around for you so they are pretty much redundant now anyways.

If you're buying pre-made cables don't waste your money on the overpriced Belkin crap that people sell at £1 a meter. You should be able to find 15M premade cables for circa £5 if you're buying only one.

If you have more cables to run around the house then it might be worth buying a small 100M reel and some RJ45 plugs and a crimp tool, should only set you back around £50 all in.

one of these (not the crossovers though), depending on length required. As stated above any cat5e will work just as well as Belkin are expensive
