About to start work on the garden for this years major project work, 90Ft of feather board of fencing and large decking.

Now I want to have power down to the deck for lighting, homeplug etc, so I need to run cable down to there. I am going to plug it into a socket in the kitchen with an RCD so it will be classed as a tempory installation so no need for a sparky.

But not sure what type of cable to use, the cable will be mounted 6" off the ground at the top of the gravel board, and that side of the garden will be laid to grass.

So what type of cable will be best?

Cheers

Kimbie

What's is the distance.

Could use NYY-J HITUF 2.5mm, it can used indoors, outdoors, underground, in concrete and in water.

Most likely cheaper than SWA & a lot easier to work with, you need experience using SWA glands, whereas HITUF uses compression gland fittings.

Got my last 50 mtrs of HITUF off the bay.

Could also use 2.5mm 3 Core NYY-J Cable, probably easier to get hold of, & even better than HITUFF, & use still use 20mm compression glands.

I've never used the hituf but you certainly can't terminate SWA to a plug. Correctly anyway.

Using the 20mm compression glands, it's easy to terminate in a IP55/IP65 junction box, just remove knockout, fit gland, then use Wago Connector to join to the HITUF to some round cable & a 13a plug was how I did the last one, friend didn't wanted a permanent connection, just one she could plug in to a socket as required.

Sensible way of doing it :)

I probably took his first post too literally. That he was going to stick a plug directly onto the end of whatever cable he used.

Depending on the cable pretty much that, plug on one end and socket on the other to be honest.

With a weather proof junction box in the middle just after the cable comes up from underground, so any damange to the exposed cable is easy to replace.
