Hi,

I'm after a good quality compact digital camera. I'm going to Tokyo soon, and so intended to buy one from there.

Other than movies, and stuff it's got to have a lot of filters for sundown, nightshot etc.

What can people recommend. Also any shops/malls you can recommend.

Thanks

Ross

To be honest, the cost of cameras in Japan is the same as the UK. So, really, whatever the latest camera advice is for the UK, it will apply in Japan. The only advantage Japan will have is that sometimes some camera models are released earlier than they are in the UK.

In terms of places... well Akihabara is full of Electronics shops. Yodobashi Camera is one of the main large retailers there. The have a big store in Akihabara (called "Akiba"). It should be possible to get Duty Free there, though I've never tried that as I'm not there on a tourist visa.
There is also a chain of stores called Laox, which has Duty Free. They may have more English speaking staff (very basic English levels though)

Canon Powershot S3 IS. Good all round camera. Not sure if it can take filters or not. Anyway, what do you mean filters for night shots?

Hey guys thanks.

Well camera's such as my mates Casio Exilim has really good sundown, sunset, modes that put a red or magenta filter when taking the photo giving an amazing effect.

Any other advice, or a place that lists some of the top cameras would be much appreciated.

thanks

Annoyingly there is no screw mount on the S3 lens. However there is this addon if you wanted to attach filters. You can do wonderful things in photoshop to bring out sunsets and things though.
