Hey everyone, I used to have a Nikon D40 and then moved onto the Nikon D5000 but sold it last year with all my kit to fund some house work that needed to be done.

Now that its all finished I'm looking to get myself a new camera.
I do love the DSLR's but for the amount I used one, I'm thinking its not worth spending that kind of money again so I'm after a decent compact camera.

I do like Nikons as I've had good experience with them and they seem good cameras.

It will only really be used on nights/days out, holidays etc so no special macro work or nature shots which require massive zoom, and I'm looking to spend around £100

Does anyone have any recommendations????

Nikon, unfortunately, have yet to make a good compact. My personal view is when it comes to compacts, buying the most expensive Canon you can afford is likely to get you one of the best available in it's class. There are a few others (Panasonic seem to be churning out consistently good cameras now) but none so reliable, it's difficult to think of a bad Canon compact...

What about a second hand Nikon d60 from the bay? still get a dslr just not at the huge price!

I have had a few ixus cameras, they are excellent little cameras but not the sturdiest so bear that in mind - 2 have broken on me from a 1 metre drop to the floor.

I'm thinking of between £100-£150max

I know a dslr would be a big improvement, and I did enjoy having one but its just the cost of the body and then lenses on top hence the reason I was looking at a compact, plus they're smaller and lighter to carry.

I've seen the Nikon S8000 and Canon Powershot A3300 as mentioned earlier

Nice looking camera and all the reviews seem really positive! thanks for the recommendation!

I've found it on another site for £162 and then the £20 cashback offer that you mentioned :)

have you owned this camera?

Nope but we've had a bunch of ixus's in the family and I'm always impressed by them. They always seem to score highly as a good, all round compact in reviews, and I like the feel of them and the metal bodies. I find panasonics a bit uncomfortable to hold...!
