hi,

apologies for a daft question, but i'm trying to work on improving my diet and looking to swap my normal couple of pieces of toast for some oatmeal, but at the moment it tastes very bland and i'm after some ideas to brighten it up.

thanks........

You'd be far better off removing the 'some slices' from your dinner then :) Assuming each slice is est. 110kcal. An extra three slices in the evening is 330kcal of carbohydrate.

Your body has been starved of glycogen for eight hours when you sleep, and you don't want to give it bread in the morning? I assume you're also aware that wholemeal is wholegrain carbs just like bread, though perhaps the GI is slightly lower.

In the morning and PWO are the perfect times to fuel with good carbs, these are the two times when your glycogen is most heavily depleted. In the evening, your activity levels are low, and your intake would be better were it to revolve around vitamins and minerals, fibrous carbs, protein and omegas/healthy fats.

Ant

thanks for that, think i get the general jist of what your saying but will need to check up on the details of such things as "fibrous carbs", still a noob when it comes to this stuff, much to my embarrassment :(.

i'm trying to reduce the bread in the evening as well so should allow a bit more flexibility in the mornings.

as for "wholemeal is wholegrain carbs just like bread" i wont say i thought they were totally different, but thought the oatmeal might be a better start to the day, as i said still trying to understand most of this so my logic might be more than slightly flawed.

cheers for that regulas, is that likely to work with fewer eggs ?
