Hi,

I have sig spec PC and I'm wondering what the 'top' CPU I can change to is? After being left feeling a big flat from the 'next gen' consoles I thought maybe I'll go for 4K on PC. We have new GPU's later on this year that will hopefully sort that out but I'm thinking perhaps I should change my CPU as well just in case because I think the new consoles are 8 core. I did a bios update to allow me to use some new AMD cpus but tbh I'm lost with all the model numbers etc.

Thanks in advance

No one knows for sure yet, I'm of the mindset that I cannot have a console performing better than my pc because otherwise what's the point in using a PC so I'm waiting for the comparisons with Ryzen CPUs then I'll buy whatever is better, hopefully a 3600XT as I don't really want to go more than that but that's doubtful if the consoles have 8 cores

Sticking with my 2600x until i know for sure, same with GPUs

I would wait till Zen3 then maybe pick up a 4700x although for 4k gaming most of the load is on the GPU so the CPU matters less.

Yeah I will need to change the GPU primarily but I wouldn't mind upgrading CPU at the same time, however if it proves negligible gains then that's also ok.

Aye I just got it in my head my 2600x is going to hold me back, I guess.

Should be fine as you can see the difference here is very small although you may benefit from a couple of extra cores but i would hold off till Zen3

Oh wow that's hardly anything. I suppose there is no point spending money where I don't need to. I'll be pumping it all into the 'best' gpu whatever that may be come end of year.

It's best to wait until your CPU starts to hold you back. When you start to notice your CPU usage creeping too close to 100%. That's a CPU bottleneck. That's when you'll notice a difference if you upgrade.

There's no point in thinking "games may start to hold me back in 3 years so I better upgrade now". Upgrade when you need to.

Reason I asked was because someone is getting bottlenecked with a 2080ti in the GPU thread with his 9700k and I don't want to fall into that trap, I'd rather upgrade both at the same time I guess.
