Other than upgrade to a new CPU, is there anything i can do to a AMD x2 4200+ CPU?
I have seen people saying some x2 CPU's can be unlocked to run 4 cores, but can not find any info suggesting if i can do it to a 4200+.
(I have a stock cooler too)

Thanks
Jon

not sure you can unlock older athlons,i had 5200+,when upgraded i just build cheap system (from whats left) for sister,it lasted another 3 years

When AMD were making X2 4200+ chips I'm pretty sure it was their first line of dual core products (and one of the first multi core consumer chips for desktops). So, unlike today where the manufacturer will bin a low performing Tri or Quad core as a Dual core, there were basically ONLY dual core chips going. You can only unlock an additional core if one is actually present and I doubt that is the case here.

Go with what Mario says. I did the same thing. I built a new PC and then rebuilt the old one with the existing parts, works a treat as a general PC and for playing older games. You could overclock it, but you're talking about a 6 year old CPU here. Even if you managed a significant OC, the performance gains are likely to be negligible.
