What can i do with a Series 5 watch ( without iphone )

So i just bought a series 5 watch with LTE but have never had a smartwatch in my life and know very little about them.

Without an iphone or paying for the monthly cellular service, what can i actually do on the watch.
I do have wifi internet in the house

I don't think you can do anything with it if you don't have an iPhone. It'll just sit at the pairing screen waiting for you to connect it to a phone.

Ah i see, will have to get the phone also in that case. I thought it might do the very basic functions without any need for other Apple devices
