I would like something that looks nice, not to big.

I currently have a R reg 1.4i 5dr corsa but has lots of things wrong with it so is going. i dont really want another corsa, wouldnt mind something bit better.

Specs i want;

Electric Windows - a must
3 door - not keen on 5 door anymore
Remote Central Locking - a must
Looks good - im 21
Got to be okish with insurance

ta.

oh I have about £1500 ish to spend

£1500 is tough, but i'd probably be looking at something like a mk2 MR2. You might even get an early turbo for the money.

Dont get another crapback, get a nice looking coupe.

I'm with this man here... I wouldn't go for a tubby (more stuff to go wrong) but provided you dont mind having only two seats then an MR2 will be a completely different world from a Corsa.

£1500 is mk2 MR2 money though, you can get both N/A and turbo models for that, although an N/A is lighter on insurance and you can get a UK-spec one (also lighter on insurance)

I said mk2...i wouldnt be advising him to get a nasty mk1

Have you really found the UK's easier to insure? When i insured my rev2 turbo it was only around £100 more than a UK N/A, i found that there didnt seem to be anything in it between any of the models :)

Opps, didnt mean to imply you had meant a mk1 :o

When i ran insurance quotes on the N/A, I ran them for both Uk and import models (of the same spec) and the imports came out around £300 more expensive than the uk equivilant..

Was more than enough to convince me to survive w/o air con :D

Be very interested to see your N/A if your at any future meets, i dont think ive ever been in one before :o Didnt know they didnt have air con, although that certainly wouldnt bother me, i dont know if i even ever turned my MR2's air con on when i had it.

No problem! I've been to a couple so no doubt i'll make another at some point. Newbury aint exactly a great distance from Hook anyway! I would imagine they'd look / feel pretty much the same, except slower :p (I think the stock suspension is the same between rev3 N/As and tubbys isnt it?)

The only problem with a megane coupe is that its made by renault... its french :p I've never been in nor seen one up close though so can't really comment

Other suggestions? They'd be the bland rep-mobiles such as 406s, mondeos and you're even just about breaching ford-focus kinda money now (allbeit high-mileage)

To the OP, are you handy with a spanner? If you are, is there any reasoning behind getting a newer car? £1500 would get a top spec older car with lower mileage, theres just a higher chance of getting your hands dirty more often

A few more realistic possibles for you:

Saxo VTR
Fiesta 1.25 Zetec
Corsa GSi (if you decide you want to stick with a Corsa)
106 XSi
306 XS/XSi/DTurbo

All of these cars fit nicely into your budget, and you should see a tidy example of each for £1400-1500 or so.

Unfortunately, there are lots of nicer, faster cars (like the MR2s and Megane coupes already mentioned, and other things like the Ford Puma etc.) that *just* fall into your price bracket, but that bracket is the bottom of their price range - meaning for your money, you'll have all the tatty, high mileage, thrashed examples to look at. If you do decide to go for something a bit sportier, have a look at early Mazda MX5s, the 1.6 is quite good on the insurance front.

I would really suggest against the 306 XS/XSi unless you go for a phase 2 (which would go over your price bracket i think). I have a Citroen ZX 2.0i which is the same car, just a different set of body panels. The engine revs well but ultimately is so gutless. Avoid the 8v phase 1 model if you can!

hm the mk2 doesnt really suit me.

what you think about the peugeot 206, can i get one in budget?
or what about punto ?

i quite like the mondeo but just finding one in budget im struggling.

You won't get one in budget and they're awful cars. Avoid. You could get a 106 but they're rather basic

Wouldn't be my choice but there are worse cars around. Don't handle all that well though

I'd have thought you could get a decent spec Mondeo for that as they don't hold onto their value particuarly well. What spec are you looking for?

I'd personally look at a 306 too - could get a good 1998 model for that
