I'll be moving into my new flat in the new year and as my computer will be in the spare bedroom I want to be able to listen to my mp3's and watch videos on my living room TV which will have a surround sound system connected to it.

I'm thinking I've got 2 options which are:-

Get a wireless media streamer for my mp3's or a box that could have all of my mp3's on a hard drive that would connect to my TV and I could play them that way. For video's I could a get a HDMI upscaling DVD player that can play Divx/Xvid and has a USB connection on it so I could connect my external hard drive and play the video's that way.

OR

Get an all-in-one media streamer that would play both mp3's and videos and would connect to my TV, again either wireless or hard drive based

I don't mind if the media streamer in either case is wireless or hard drive based but can't really be wired as it'll be in another room & I don't want to run a wire that far.

As for the mp3 side of things I would like a good on screen GUI as when I've tried playing mp3's on my DVD player due to the way it displays the root folders etc you only get abot 8 characters for the filenames so if its got (track number)_-_(track name) there are times when you can't tell what the song is called as very few characters are displayed.

I would prefer a HDMI connection if it was to play videos as my new TV has got 3 HDMI connections and the component connection will be taken up by my Wii or Sky. Also if its connected by HDMI then I connect my TV to my surround sound by optical out then I'm assuming I would get better audio than via non HDMI.

I will also be having wireless broadband via a router if that has any implications having 2 wireless units in the flat.

Has anyone got any ideas on what I could get with a budget of £200 maximum?

Cheers

A PS3 fits all you requirements a part from the price (£300) but you would also be getting a Blue Ray HD player at the same time ...ohh and it plays games if you want it to as well :)
At the moment you have to use 3rd party software on you PC for the PS3 to play Divx but Sony have just signed an agreement with Divx so Divx will be added to the PS3 soon, whether it will be 100% compatible with all Divx formats remains to be seen.
