First of all, apologies if this has been asked a million times. I have read through numerous forums and have seen plenty of posts on the subject but most go over my head.
I have a 40Gb PS3 and from what I have read, it can be used as a "media box". Here's what I want to do after installing a bigger HDD:
Can the PS3 do this as it is or will I need Linux? To install Linux do I need a keyboard & mouse? If so, do they have to be bluetooth or is wireless USB ok? Does Linux support the wireless networking function? Will I be able to access my PC via the network to copy files across?
If I don't need Linux, what do I do to get all the above to work?
Bare in mind that I'm a complete noob with all of this so your patience will be appreciated if this turns out to be simpler than I actually think it is

- Put all my MP3s onto the HDD and play them through the PS3 with an output to an amp.
- Be able to create playlists with my MP3s, shuffle tracks etc...
- Do the same with videos
