Hi,
Appologies as i don't normally come in this part of the forum. currently i have a 55 reg cheverlot Kalos 1.2 SE
according to parkers its worth £2240 in a trade in http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=32973&plate=79
But dont know for sure as not been to a garage yet to see what they will offer. As you can tell im not that into cars and just use them to get from a to b.
I now have a job that involves me doing a bit of driving. and my car the air con bearing as seized and i think the clutch is on the way out.
What cars should i be looking at if i im looking at a value of £4000 looking for cheep insurance and running costs. 5 dr if possible.
What kinda age ranges and milage should i be looking for?

TIA

There really is such a wide array of cars that you could choose that its virtually impossible to suggest anything.

However, the 'default' answer you will get here is a mondeo.

Anything that isn't a Chevrolet is going to be vast improvement.....

What is it that's important to you? Big car? Small car? Hatchback? Saloon? Reliability? Performance? Comfort? Does it neeed to be practical? Are you likely to be using it to move big boxes, go to Ikea? How many miles as year are you likely to be doing? 10,000? 20,000?

lol mark,
I play golf so would like a boot that i can get a golf bag in something i cant do with the karlos, but this isnt a deal breaker as i could chuck it in back seat like i do now.

Think I'm after a hatchback, have a greyhound that sometimes travels with us. Size of car again not really fussed thinking something smallish though may need to put a baby seat in it in a year or so's time.

Performance is not really an issue, though it has to be reliable as i dont like paying for repairs. preferable low running costs.
Most of my traveling is 10 miles or so to work a day though i do a bit of motorway driving recon about 15,000 a year would be about right.

[TW]fox may i ask if im driving up hills and the engine kinda rev's more without me pushing my foot any further down on the gas, kinda like its dropping out of gear, thats my clutch going? how much roughly are we looking at to get that fixed?

Cheers,

But if i do decide to change will i be looking at something older than my car and maybe more miles for around £4000 mark.

I mean the chevrolet looks not to have kept any value at all. What im also think is would a older well known brand be better than a newer lesser brand ( just with the trouble i had with the chevrolett even when new)

Ok, I think your situation is this.

You drive a Chevrolet Kalos. You don't need me to tell you this is not a great car.

However, neither is a 206. Infact I'd advise you keep the Chevrolet instead of buying a 206.

It doesnt sound like there is much point you changing your car. What do you want from a new car your current car cannot offer you?

If you wish to change, I'd be looking at something made by Ford or Skoda at this budget giving what I've worked out about the type of driver you are etc etc.

Im looking for something that is a step up from my current car. something that i will have more confidence in.
Ok taking the budget out of consideration what would be the next step up the ladder from the chevrolet.

I can't help thinking that some sort of 1.25 Mk6 fiesta should fit the bill.

I'm not sure if they all have air-con as standard.

Heres one

edit : that one's private, so no trade-in.

Just had a quote for the clutch £310 for parts labour and free courtasy car ? is this about right?

A bit on the high side but the right ballpark - FWIW a courtesy car is normally free, hence the name :)

If you're keen to change to get something better in most senses - better equipped, better to drive, more reliable etc etc, then a Focus would be a good option - a step up in terms of size and a good car for this sort of money
