I would say it's reasonable sporty for such a barge :D Acceleration feels 'reasonable' ;) when you put your foot down.. I wouldn't say it's great at cornering.. But for road use and going round roundabouts the cornering feels amazing for such a large vehicle :p

I can imagine it gets expensive to maintain if you have no mechanical knowledge, but if you can do most basic things yourself like brake pads then you will be fine.. maybe :p

I didnt know about this club before buying mine, I dont wish to own one anymore!

Anyway for 6k could get you a good prefacelift st220, as said octavia vrs, any 1.8t vag car would be quite good ie cupra/golf gti etc. If you can put up with the price of petrol the 220 is a bargain though
 
Just went out in the Jetta. Seems quite good actually. Ride was a little firm (same tyre size as mine - 17", 45 width) and diesel is a big no but the car itself was better than I thought :) I would certainly have one of those with a good petrol engine, over a Golf/A3.

My dad has a xj8... its a very very very good car. its handles superbly for such a large car.. its accelerates very well.. even though it huge... so the super charged version with sports suspension must be better...

so in over words.. what are you going on about?
*ps we have had no problems with ours... but thats because ours hasnt got the silicon engine problem which does haunt some xj's

That Cupra is growing on me, would be nice to get something newer than 2002. Wheels arn't even too bad but agree I'd change em eventually. Going to have to find somewhere local selling a Golf, Octavia and a Cupra to help me decide.

As for the Alfa GTV and Fiat Coupe, like you say a bit impractical and also a bit too old in that example.

For 5-6k you won't get much newer for a cupra or a golf even I would imagine.

The power difference between the Golf and the Cupra is a fair difference too.
 
Yeah for the money I'm looking at 2002-2003 it seems. Shame really as the interior looks a bit disappointing - i.e. older style lcd displays and styling, that said I've only gone by photos! still like the exterior and parkers is pretty positive on the car generally. Seems the 2004 update added quite a bit though.

Seems if I push to 6-6.5k I could look at the 2005 version which will include some updates - going by the parkers site.

Mercedes CLS320 CDI, get like an 07 plate for about £35k - most come fully loaded, do try and find one with AMG kit though.
 
For me anything over 180bhp is excessive/bonus so I'd only be pushing my budget for new models/quality. Don't know much about the LCR but I guess its under the hood.
