Now ive got my track car up and running i dont need an evo as a daily driver, so i wanna get rid of it in favour of something more comfy.

Im not sure what im looking for if im honest, ive always bought performance cars rather than "grandad" cars, ive seen one or two nice Audi's wizzing past where i live but i dont know much about them.

I really liked the look of Dangerous's old Mondeo but i think i can stretch my budget a little more and get something a little more classy. But if i dont need to then id happily get the Mundane-o

Not keen on the look of the E39 5 series so thats out of the question on looks alone.

4X4's are cool but i doubt it will ever get used offroad so im not too fussed either way with these.

I really like the look of the Crysler 300c, the depreciation isnt a worry too much as id probably keep it for a good few year but i imagine its gunna handle like a turd and not have the toys another car would for the same cash. (they do a hemi version :D)

Insurance, MPG and other costs im not too concerned about but i have a budget of £30k max, but thats a budget not a target ;) im happy to spend half that if the car is right as it means i wouldnt have to finance it :)

Fox those beemers would be the top end of my budget really, never driven one but they look the dogs :D

No-one got any more thoughts on Audi's?

No Mercedes or E39 pleas folks :)

:D :p Fair enough, they do have a bit of an image

What about a Audi A8? Again absolutely gorgeous cars with a very good understated image :)

What can i get for my budget? my knowledge of Audi starts and ends at they are German, reliable and have a fancy 4 wheek drive system they call quattro or summet :D

I wouldn't say a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds is almost as quick as 350bhp Evo fox ;) And it certainly wouldn't be as quick in 'the twisties' (tm)

Aye, i think the quoted figure for a 0-60 is 3.9 on an FQ300 mine is tuned to 360bhp so it should hit that i reckon. Not a lot beats an evo in the twisties either :D

Bentley Turbo R tbh

Im not old enough :p Ill be at Hyde Park Corner tomorrow around 3 if you spot me (Black Evo reg PE53 ***) give us a nod ;)

Really liking the look of the Audi S4, a nice black one thats fully loaded would suit me :) I think Smith Knight Fay is my local dealer so i might have a mooch round tomorrow at some point.

As Evo has pointed out, i dont really need performance ive got all my kicks in a track day Evo 9 and a modified GSXR1000 :D dont want anything slow though, but enough to see me cruise comfy down the motorway.

Yeah its road legal, ill give you a short run down of the spec and post up some pictures tomorrow.

Car was worth £30k new, but this was 4 months old and the dealership bought it as a demonstrator it had done less than a thousand miles but it had only been taken out by test pilots so it was tatty, seats where ripped and the engine hadnt been broken in just abused, so i got it for £19k!!!

Engine

Evo 9 FQ300
GT 3071 turbo (takes me up to 450bhp apparently)
APS Intercooler
Hand made manifold (by my brother)
Hand made exhaust
Hand made race cams (by my brother again, made completley from scratch on a lathe using HKS race cams as a "template")
Hand built gear box with very short ratios, again made by my very talented brother
ECU swapped out for a HKS jobby fully mapped and set up on a rolling road.

Chassis

Fully seam welded shell work with carbon fibre bonnet and boot (which i made myself after Penski pointed me out to good guide)
Ohlins race suspension all round, (can adjust everything from pre load to damping etc, very good stuff and the most expensive part of the build)
Standard wheels for the moment but will be having 16" wheels at some point, just got to work out which i want.
Front and rear strut braces.
362mm x 35mm Discs with AP racing calipers all round.

Got group A head gaskets sat waiting to go on if i need more power, there;s no bottom end power what so ever due to the cams and gear box, so it needs to be driven very hard. so although road legal its a bit pants to drive on the road :D

Cost me close to £30k all in, if my brother didnt do all the work it would cost me £50k easily, he could charge £6,000 for a hand built gear box on its own i reckon.

Im cool with the car though and let everyone drive it, i understand its gunna get damaged and what not so a lot of people drive it :) will post some pictures of the build tomorrow in the post your rides thread as they are all on my craptop at my work shop :)

Jesus Christ. Is it legal to adopt another brother?

He's a genius mate, he;s only 24 and can work a lathe like a seasoned pro. He sells insurance for a living and tunes peoples cars as a hobby. He doesnt have the funds to set up in business properly but if he did he would make a mint.

WOW, your brother sounds like a SERIOUSLY talented bloke. Incredible

Ask him if he'll whip me up a gearbox will you :D

We are only up the M6 mate, you should arrange a visit to his work shop. Id love a mooch round your RX7 :)

A gear box is very easy to make tbh, he took the old one out and used all the casings etc just made new gears. He took the ratios off the WRC cars and with a calculator worked out the sizes and how many teeth each gear needed, then put all the details in the water jet and the machine did the rest :) the machine ran for close to 150 hours none stop. It wont last too long but ive got two full sets of spare gears for each time its gunna need a rebuild.

The cams are the cool part, he took the told ones out and mounted them on a lathe as a guide, then lathed out new ones that are able to move all the power higher into the rev range.

Havent had time to look yet, i had a test drive in a 330d and it was very impressive but it looked minging and i dont really want a diesel. So still looking, a trip to Audi is on the cards though.
