What card for 1.5 SS with all VR games with Vive?

980Ti would be good for 1.5x in *most* all games.

You're gonna have to spend a lot more money to cover every fringe scenario where it isn't good enough.

i7 6700 & 980HOF here...only good enough for medium settings in 'raw data', that game needs some serious beef!

Depends what is acceptable to you.
I have 1080 overclocked on water and before asw was integrated, there were definitely a few games that would noticeably struggle. For instance, project cars. However, since asw was implemented all games including project cars appear to run smooth.
I have not had much time to test the ASW, so I can't tell you if it introduces anything negative to the experience.

Thanks.... Will my 2500k which I can't overclock bottleneck me if I go 1080? When looking to use ss?

Yes.

Don't pair a 1080 with a stock clocked 2500k, waste of money.

If you already have a 980 Ti and can't overclock the 2500k, then stick with what you have for now.

And then plan to upgrade to Zen if Zen is good, or Kaby Lake if Kaby Lake is good, and then a 1080 Ti or AMD Vega.

We're on the cusp of a lot of new hardware coming out, so it's a bad idea to drop a ton of money right now anyway.

What about if I bought a new motherboard and overclocked the CPU to 4.8ghz with a 1080, would that work?

Yes, but you'd be much better off spending your money to modernise your system.

If you can afford a £700 card, you can afford an i7 7700k (Kaby Lake) upgrade. Or Zen, if Zen is the better buy. Both are out very early next year.

Also if your 980 Ti clocks high (1400 MHz+) a GTX 1080 is only ~30% faster anyway. It's not a worthwhile upgrade for the money IMO.

You should be looking at the 1080 Ti + i7 7700k.

Or AMD's big Vega card + 6 or 8 core AMD Zen.

Or whichever combination of the two works out the best buy.
