I'm not really a gamer however I fancy a new gfx card, whats is best for around £100? Don't see the point paying anymore, thats what xboxs are for. Preferrably nvida as I'm gonna get GTA4 once it has been patched a few times.

Yamahahahahaha,

the 8800 GT looks good however will the onboard ram only 256 be a problem with something like gta4?

The 4830 is a little slower and a little more expensive than the 8800GT / 9800GT.

The 4850 is well over £100, nearer to £130 at this moment in time (13/12/2008).

Absolute bargain at the price. Nearly £50 cheaper than the 4850 and offers much more bang for buck as a result.

Totally wrong the 8800gt 256 offers no where near the bang for buck of the 4850. The 4850 can game at high res try this with 256 onboard memory and you will be looking at a slide show. The 4850 is the bang for buck king atm.

Ah 8800GT with 512MB (or even 640) for ~£60 2nd hand is a brilliant deal however.

Thought the 512mb 8800gt was better than the 640mb? Read that somewhere on these very forums. Different versions are around and worth taking a close look at. Just make sure you don't go for a 256mb. You probably will regret it.

512MB is indeed better unless you're at very high res/AA. My wording wasn't very good - was trying to suggest that the 512MB should be the first choice out of the two.

another vote here for the 4850,been an nvidia user for the last couple of cards but got fed up of driver problems in games and am now happy.

I took the plunge and bought a 4850 over a lesser version thats meant beans on toast for a week and i'm very happy i did it. Fantastic performance for pretty reasonable money. I'd say if you cant afford one just yet then hang on a little until you can, or maybe look at a second hand one?

4830 is much better value for money, but of course this is the case with all computer components :D

The Powercolor ones also overclock pretty well (775 Mhz on the core so far with mine, default volts, watercooling).

Seen my mates 4850 versus my 8800GT in a similar machine and it looks a fair bit better- I wish I had gone that route especially as I want a bigger monitor ASAP.
