Hi
I am thinking of buying a 24" screen primarily for using Cubase and music software, i wont be playing games much. what graphics card do you recommend to do this, i have some seriously old radeon 128 meg thing in there at the moment i dont want to spend a fortune.i have an ix38quad gt with a quad core intel@3gig and 4 gig corsair dominator ram.
any help would be appreciated :D

If you won't be gaming *much* - but occasionally play Crysis - that puts your choice in the high end area, 4870 1Gb / X2 / GTX260 / 280. If you play the odd game of Tetris - anything will do! I have a 1Gb 4870 and play COD4 and GRID and plan to get a 24" after Christmas...

What would be your budget?

I'd normally recommend a 4850, great for whenever you fancy a quick game, but this might be a bit much for your budget, and depending on what games you play (nothing modern), you might not need something as powerful. A card like the 4850 should run any game on a 24" monitor, most of them at the highest settings aswell.

This one is on offer this week

Thanks a lot for the help,im gonna have a look through now,i don't really wanna spend more than 100 quid if i can help it.

I would personally skip the 4850 and go with a 4870/GTX 260. My monitor is 1920x1080 native and i can't run certain games maxed out with a stable framerate on mine. Fallout 3 for example does not run well maxed out with 4xaa/8xaf. The game is still playable, but the extra horsepower would certainly help the minimum fps. Same thing for Far Cry 2, it's playable but certainly not as good as it could be (the game is crap anyway but that's just my opinion).

If you have the funds for a 4870/260/280 then i think it's the way to go.

It's not a gaming rig he's wanting, so it doesn't have to max everything out. For that budget your looking at the ATi 4830, or if you can stretch a little, this 4850 on offer

Yeah i know he said he doesn't game much, i was just letting him know that a 4850 won't offer a high framerate in a lot of modern games maxed out at that resolution. If fps is not that important or medium settings are ok, then yes the 4850 is fine.
