what card is better?

hi guys i been searching now 4 my new PC rig for sum time. and Ive come to a conclusion on my low budget of 600 pound id be better off with a amd3 setup. and Ive decided id have a ati cards as my graphics for my gaming needs now Ive seen various cards and i am tempted to get either 2 4890's xfx black edition (1gb per card) or 2 sapphire vapor x 4870's (2gb per card) whats better can any one point me in the right direction

1 4890 would be my choice, although is would be nice to see your spec (esp PSU, monitor and cpu) before we make any judgement

really now how is that i surrpose because of the speed i fort by having a bigger memory buffer it would give me more of a advatage over games like gta4 crysis ect. by the way reambering its the cards i noted above im instrested in the xfx 4870 (2gb) black edition and the shappire (4890 1gb) running oc at 1000mhz i cant reamber what the memory speed was i fink its 4000mhz

It's been shown that even at silly high resolutions, the extra GB of RAM only gives 2-3 more FPS than the standard 1GB version. Compare that to the 20% speed increase of the 4890, and it doesn't stand up very well.

not sure if this is correct, but the reason why the 4890 is a better choice is because the 4870 can not use 2GB of memory due to its memory bandwidth (or something)

ocz plaitnum 4gb (2x2gb) ddr3 pc3 10666c7 1333mhz dual channel

thermal take (though power series 750 watt psu)

i would still get 1 4890 as this will give you funds towards a DX11 cards if they turn out to be as good as some people make them out to be or more towards other things if you find out that only having one card is fast enough for you.

hmm well i not that botherd about dx11 i still only use dx9 atm on most games because i have xp and i dnt like vista and ive never tried the new windows and i dnt intend to because i dnt like it as much. im happy with xp its very user freindly and does not have annoying popups like vista ect. so given my pc will be runnning xp prob 64bit to get more power out my cpu would just having 1 gpu or 2 be gd anoth to play games like crysis i say crysis cuz it really the only game i play and atm i got a ****ty 9600gt thats just not up 4 the job wen it comes to high res and aa turned on

ive allways wanted a crossfire setup so ill prob get 2 cards anyway it just decing wich ones i shud get i surrpose the most logical cards to get wud be the one with the highest core speed

Just get an old directx 9 card then like the x1900xtx or a 7800GTX. Seriously what's the point in buying a high end card with that sort of attitude. You either want to move with the times or you don't :confused:

How can you say you've never tried Windows 7 in one breath, and then in the same sentance say "I don't intend to try it because I don't like it as much"? Very bizzarre statement. Have you actually tried Vista recently?

yeh ok cockey. well theres no point me gettin a dx9 card cuz der not fast anoth 2 play games like crysis i mean the prob is it dnt matter if u got vista windows 7 xp wot ever it seems to me crysis its a game thats not ment to be playing with flying coulors i mean even spending 200 or 400 pounds on a grahics card still anit gunna get u gd fps so whats the point. i fink i just get me 2 4890's in crossfire from shappire or xfx and overclock them a little and have done my spec are:

you still havent told us what res you game at. just saying high res can mean anything. to a person using a 30" monitor, a 24" has a low res, while to those with a 17", the 24" will be a high res.

yeh soz its on a 22inch hd flatscreen and at a ress of no more than 1900 by 1200 i fink on games like crysis,cod5,cod4,ect thre the only games i can think of atm cuz i anit been able to play any of the most recent games because of my ****ty galaxy low prfile 9600gt but u dnt need to worrie about that cuz thats y i wanna replace my pc once i can figure out wot grahics im guna have

at that res, a single 4890 will do in most situations.

I don't know of a 22" that does 1920x1200? 1920x1080 perhaps.

ohh im sorry its not a 22 inch its a 24inch my mistake maybe thats y u not heard of one at that res yeh its a 24 inch screen and i play at 1920x1200 and if im on crysis then its got to be 4aa

i fink im gunna get 2 4890's in cs mode but not shure what one i shjud get the shapphire vapour-x or the atomic editon or the black editon from xfx
