sold my powercolor x1950pro 256mb and now have around £100 for a replacement.

Have a 22inch Lg monitor mainly play cod4, didnt like crysis  first choice at the moment is the 9600gt am still on skt939 as well so a 8800gt a waste of time? the 9600gt better than the 8800gs?

I would personally only consider a 8800 GT.

When you say you are on a 939 though, what is your specs?

You really need a min of 2GB of ram and a decently clocked Athlon 64 (preferably a dual core) these days :(

3800 x2 and 2gb of corsair, a mate bought one of the cheaper 8800gt and i dont think i would get one of those so am looking at around 140 for a card which is to much :(

You should probably just save up a little more and grab the 8800 GT if you can, if you really can't squeeze for the extra cash, then I suppose a 9600 GT will probably do.

bfg looks good but reviews i have read so it noisy at full speed my machine is in a warm room :(

Looks like a 9600gt unless i can find a 8800gt with the newer larger fan for around £120 :D

Get a 8800GT, I'm running one in my system and my CPU is at stock now (2.2GHz) and it still destroys everything that I throw at it, they've not even expensive anymore either - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-052-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1008

i have this exact card.

i cant hear it at all and mine stays very cool. i dont know what all the fuss is about with the 8800GT's being loud and hot. its just not true, not in my case anyways.

youve probably guessed what i think, 8800GT all the way. i play cod4 and get pretty dam good frame rates.

8800gt's are a fantastic card and still very quiet compared to certain other cards. However, mine is definiately louder than my old 8800gts 320mb/640mb's were. Someone did tell me at one stage that this is because i got one of the first batch of them with a mickey mouse fan on it :D

Had one of the first 8800 GT's with the so called "mickey mouse fan", was absolutely silent, was as quiet as my old 320mb GTS which had the dual slot cooler, they only run full speed on boot for about 3-4 seconds (where they are pretty loud), but then they drop silent and stay silent, even under heavy load mine was silent, they never get to full speed, if they do they must have to get to some pretty high temps, as mine used to get to 85+ underload, and it was still silent.
