Hi all,

Sorry to ask the usual dull question but you lot are just THAT quick and efficient, where else could I go? ;)

ok, my 7900GT died yesterday :( :( :( I've had it for a good few years so now its back to hunting around researching the best card for me. budget of around 150-200 nuggets. Not that great but I'm not even sure an up to date card would be a good choice for my rig anwyay...

E6400 2.13, 2gb ram and only got a 19" widescreen tft. (saving for 24" but realistically that might not land until next Feb)

I can see that i can pick up an 8800gts for about 150 quid?. or do you have any good advice with regards to hanging on until prices come down for the new cards?

any thoughts would be greatly apreciated. thanks a lot.

HD4850. Can get one for £120ish (probably less) and will be mroe than enough for a 19" display as well as being fast enough for a 24" display as well.

At this price range avoid the 8800GTS as its simply overpriced. A 9800GTX+ (if you favour nvidia cards) offers similar performance to the HD4850 for around the same price.

Alternatively you could save a bundle and pick up one of the cheap 8800GT/9800GT cards that are floating about for £80-90. Again these would be enough for a 19" monitor but will struggle on a 24".

Take a look at the ATI 4580 Series it is around £150 and are very good preformers!

Edit - Wow I was going to Suggest the Nivida 9800 Series! Talk about funny 3 posts in a row with the same suggestions! I didnt cause I personally think the 4580 would be a better choice!

It really depends on the game and to be honest on a 19" mointor you whudn't really need two cards! One card would be fine!

On a 24" you would see the difference though would all depend on what rez u would game at!

Yeah id say either the 9800 GTX+ or 4850 as well if you want it within budget, however if you can stretch that a bit (say an extra £20) you can get a GTX 260-216 which is a cracking card, and quite a bit faster than both of those.:)

Where you getting that on OC all I can see is that the cards are like £220

i'd go with the nvidia, the performance is around the same

you'd get a 50:50 balance of people saying ATI/nvidia between the two
