What card to get?

Well my system is getting old now well gpu at least. (x1950 pro).

The rest of my system q6600 oc
6gb DDR2 800mhz ram
RAID 0 2 x 500gb WD blue's
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
brand new 650w corsair psu.

So my family are chipping in together to get me a new graphics card. They have £160 between them but i am happy to put in more to get a nice card. I dont realy want to spend in total more than £230. My mobo and psu (i believe) are able to take sli or crossfire cards so realy want to decide what to go for. I have been looking into it and with benchmarks im realy looking at the HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 2gb

At that price, that looks like your best option.
An alternative for £20 more than your upper limit is two of these babies in CF:
Preorder HD 5850, £124 each

What is your cpu overclocked to?

3.2 ish if i remember correctly. at work atm so would need to check. Whats the performance difference on the dual 5850's. i was looking into that but only concern would be having one card would enable me to add a second one at a later dater (but not too soon, im not rich haha).

I'd recomend just sticking with one card anyway, but seen as how your board only has one PCI-Ex16 slot that choice is taken for you anyway
So yeah either the 6950 or an alternative would be a 470 which are about 200 atm, being EOL, though if youre prepared to go to 230 then yeah 6950 would definitely be my recomendation

Your completely right. I completly forgot it had one x16 port. Shows how long its been since i did my last upgrade. 470 vs 6950? much difference. I have been looking at benchmarks and what not but what are they realy like in games?

Am i right in saying i should remove the 6870 out of my choice due to the 5870 being better or am i wrong with that?
