What card to upgrade a 6yr old mini-ITX build?

I built a mini-ITX system in 2014 for general use, photo editing would be the biggest stress on the system (nothing major). It's served me well but since lockdown I've been playing a bit of CS:GO and thought I should probably ditch the onboard graphics and buy something that means I can stop playing at 1024 res and avoiding molotovs due to slow-down :D

Here's the receipt from good ol' OcUK back in 2014.

Looking to spend about £150 max on a graphics card and maybe upgrade the RAM (£50 maybe?). Totally out of the loop but hoping I can get something half decent that'll serve it's purpose. If I can play CS:GO at a decent resolution I'll be happy, and if I can muddle along with some newer games that'd be nice too! If spending £150 on a card in that system is pointless please tell me and I'm happy to spend less!

Thanks.

A 1650 super is the most powerful gpu for your budget and very capable at 1080p.

Your case supports graphics card up to 180mm in length this should fit, but always check yourself.

Thanks. I'm not sure what you're linking to there but I was looking at OcUK in my price range and saw they were around the right price point. a lot of manufacturers I don't recognise… any recommended in particular? Do I need to be careful about my 450w psu?

980ti or 1070 maybe for that money on the used market.
Not a big fan of going used, and surely looking at the rest of my hardware something that high-end (ish) would be overkill? Again, looking at the 450w psu.

Sidenote; RAM looks expensive so perhaps I should just stick with the 8GB? Am I going to see any improvement spending £100+ on 16GB?

Similar situation here and I got a ASUS Phoenix GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC Edition 4GB GDDR6 for the kids to play Lego games on the HTPC. I'm really pleased with it. I've overclocked it and 4K on the OLED is no problem with these kinds of games.

This is a small single-fan version, so adjust according to your case size, cooling, and noise requirements.

Thanks. Never heard of Palit but then again I've been out of gaming for a decade! How do they sit compared to the other big boy manufacturers?

Yeah ideally I'd like something quiet.. it's the 1650s that seem to be within my price range right now. Is anything going to change on Black Friday or is that wishful thinking... :o

I think I'm going to have to open up my case and check everything in there (how much space etc.) before hitting buy! Slightly annoying as it's hard to get to :(

Palit is more of a budget brand and offer a 2 year warranty where as others offer 3 years. I have had a palit gpu before and it was faultless.

I think there will be some sales on older graphics cards on black friday, just a guess though.
I hope so..

Thanks for the info.

Last point to consider, do I need to worry about cooling? I was checking the measurements for gpu here and it states;
We do have a few concerns about the cooling options for the chassis though - it's a fanless case design, which is something you'll need to keep in mind when choosing a CPU and graphics card (if you are intending to use one) in the build.

Palit is the largest graphics card manufacturer on the planet in terms of sales. Galaxy/Galax, KFA2 and Gainward are some of the other brands they sell cards under. I wouldn't call them a "budget" brand either. Their cards are generally as good as anything on the market in terms of cooling, and they produce the ridiculously-expensive Hall of Fame cards under the KFA2 name.

Putting in a gpu is going to dump heat into the case and the case has no fans so its something to consider. A 1650 non super doesn't require as much power but has less performance.

Hmn yes. Would you be worried though?

On the flipside I was just about to ask which of the 1650 SUPERs can run silent during low-loads… ?

Sure but I would look at what temps your cpu is getting under load at present, if there high it's only gonna increase.

Most gpu you won't here when at idle and will be no more than the cpu fan at idle, but cooling is key to temps.

How much did you pay for this one? I'm currently weighing up this for £159.98 or the MSI 1650 SUPER 4GB AERO which sells itself as a pocket rocket for mini-ITX/HTPC  Any preference/thoughts on brands there? The MSI Aero is £180 here at OcUK...

As above, I'm off work this week so given there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of stock I'm wondering if these would actually reduce come Black Friday. £160 seems alright... ?

Thanks guys. Still close to hitting buy on that MSI but I had a sudden thought. I was reading this and wanted to make sure that wouldn't cause any issues?

The card has dual-slot design and for power, it requires one 6-pin PCIe connector and a 350W power supply.
I'm guessing my PSU has 6 pin PCIe connectors and that's not going to be an issue? I will open the case today and double check measurements...
