would just like to say this is my first post and what a great forum this is but im after a upgrade from this card ive got now i was going to go for 7900 but have heard about loads of problems.so i was thinking of trying ati but i only play at max 1280x1024 so would the x1800xt be ok or should i go for the x1900xt.thanks for any help

id go for the ati 1900, im not a gfx nut though so take my opinion with a pinch of salt,

im only really posting to say, a username as sunderland, pfftttt blooming mackems lol :p
 
All depends on your budget, but you cant go wrong with the x1800xt at its current value for pci-e. The 7900GT is quicker one you up the core and mem by some margin, but there are a few issues with 7900 boards. New i would get the Ati x1800xt, but if i was being picky about pure power, i would plump for the 7900GT, and take a risk. The x1900Xt is good if you can get the right price, but take note any cards power requirements , space it consumes and its noise. Ati x1800 & x1900 does AA+HDR, nvidia 7900 series only on HL2 currently (diff kind to full blown AA & HDR)
 
thanks for the quick replies.i fancy a ati but been with nvidia all my life.so the 7900gt is faster than a x1800xt. if i got the x1900xt does it clock to the x1900xtx thanks for your help.or would it be a waste getting the 1900 with only using the res i use on my lcd

I would personally go for the x1900xt which would allow you to play games like Oblivion at 1280x1024 at high settings. I think you can clock the x1900xt core to xtx speeds but maybe not the memory since the xtx has faster memory.
 
yes the 1900xt would clock to the same speed at the xtx! the reason why the xtx is called the xtx is because ati pick the best cores for the xtx and the couse what arent so good they put it on the xt range
 
I'm a nVidia fan. Not fond of ATI at all. Hate their control panel alough the best thing about ATI is you can install the drivers for the card WITHOUT the damn control panel!!!! .. This is what gets to me the control panel sucks I hate them both from nVidia and ATI. Personally the 7900 is a good card.
 
cheers for that easyrider i thought it would have been better having the 512 but i think i might just go for the x1900xt and hope it clocks to the xtx but thanks to all who have helped spot on :)
