i can play movies with dxva but eventually that stops working (either just wont start or i get a driver reload) but if i reboot or reinstall the graphics drivers then it works just fine (even gaming) for a day or 2 (without the glitches in the pic)

i get artifacts across the desktop too but if i refresh the desktop then it clears for a little while. i assume it's the ram but not too sure on graphics hardware.

ta all :)

p.s it's an ati 5770

but why isn't it like this all the time? once this happens it doesn't go away till a reboot but takes hours or a day + to come back.

weird

So if you re-install the driver does this require a reboot?

Maybe it's only a limited location in memory that is faulty and it's not always allocated to the display. When you reboot the location would be changed and probably also when you refresh driver installation.

I would also say video memory, it might not be totally borked yet but could be on it's way out.

i dont reboot when i remove/reinstall the driver and it has the same effect as a reboot

just waiting on a replacement off MM now
